but that's where i'm lost at. because i can appreciate songwriting that I don't and can't personally relate to. I actually have to make that compromise more often than not I'd think.
i can appreciate lyrics that i can't relate to too, but there are just topics that bore me completely, and that's one of them. unless it's done in a particularly interesting way like maybe some Kanye stuff i guess. but some people just prefer lyrics they can personally relate to, that's why I think a lot of Lorde fans (not really me) fell in love with Melodrama/Pure Heroine and they didn't like the lyrics as much on this one. especially in this climate where a lot of people have been struggling. some people just value emotional connection more in their lyrics than the pure poetic aspect, it's not really how I feel but I can kind of understand it
What in the world did my baby say
I’ve got your eyes and your mistakes
cause i won't write no symphonies, won't have no streets named after me

for sure, for sure. lots of thoughts and ways to take that conversation but it all comes down to personal preference at the end of the day, like you say.

yeah it's the little moments like that, sometimes even two or three seconds of a song, that makes this thing possibly incredible

It’s either “Live in the Dream” or “…At the Holiday Party” by St. Vincent from my point of view.

Oh, and by the way, @provider, I believe that both Annie and Jack play the electric bass guitar on “…At the Holiday Party.”

She plays it on “Down and Out Downtown”—on her own—and on the aforementioned “…At the Holiday Party”—with Jack (if I recall correctly).

First half was nice, the second half was dragging the album out a bit, this a solid 6 for me.
