Damn just saw this in the singles section and had to play it
This was ahead of its time. The first “pop” song to have any kind of trap influence in it. Pure Heroine Lorde is way better than her new stuff.
solar power hate will NEVER make sense to me. great album
I always felt like Solar Power was a Blonde inspiration gone wrong even though I personally enjoyed it.
Solar Power aimed for the same breezy introspection and minimalism that made Blonde avant garde but it lacked the emotional rawness and vocal intimacy that gave Frank’s work its staying power. I don’t think she has the voice (or writing) to strip production down like she did & unfortunately she cornered herself into going back and making a similar sound she did nearly a decade ago.

It was boringggg
Played this again on better speakers and it’s hittin i fear.
While i do agree that this sounds like a MD track I trust in her to still bring a completely different sound on this proj

Why do most albums with stripped back production get compared to Blonde?
I don’t hear it at all, I just think she wanted to make a beachy summery album and acoustic vibes fit that well
I called it supercut pt 2 on page 27

Damn supercut clears
This might be great in the context of the album

I can’t speak for other albums but there is definitely a “Post-Blonde” scene in Alternative & Pop/Indie music.
Thematically, structurally and even sonically there’s clear inspiration in SP - Malay, the lead producer on Blonde is one of the three on there & Lorde herself said she has been heavily inspired by Blonde.
“In this sort of post-‘Blonde’ landscape, we can all sort of do whatever we want in terms of instrumentation,” she added. “It’s exciting. I can use guitars and I can get a big gnarly Flume beat and throw it under water.”
A lot of fans thought Green Light was underwhelming at the time of its release. I remember people saying how the lyrics were much weaker compared to Pure Heroine. Same with Solar Power. I don't even think most people would have those lead singles in the top 5 of Melodrama and Solar Power either.
I'm not really into critiquing songs like that but I really like the urgency of her singing and the verses. I wish the chorus had just a bit more pop to it (like Green Light). Song gives nostalgic vibes.
One thing I'm iffy about is that I'm getting BRAT/Melodrama mashup vibes.
The whole park thing with it getting shut down, showing up 2 hours later, and shooting the MV and uploading it the next day is something you'd expect from Charli and not Lorde. Seeing that she's working closely with some of Charli's BRAT collaborators, it makes sense though.
I loved both albums but I'd prefer Lorde go in her own lane
