its a “little universe” that is reliant on the collective hubris of self-important people. Its not believable for this person who’s trying to paint a zen like image of herself to simultaneously sing about her boyfriend taking her ig photos and cancelling plans on people whom she clearly paints herself incapable of having an honest relationship with.

the video doesnt even try to convince you shes building any universe, its just self importantly showing people doing yoga and playing chess on a “secret”(/privatized) beach.

Its more suppressive than any authentic measure to be all-embracing, even the hook is basically saying yeah get over your little issues youre here now

my bad i just seen you replied. but wow. i can't say i got all or any of that from this one video and her description of it. i simply took it as an artist saying hey, here's the first piece of this really cool visual component to my new album that i'm really excited to share with y'all.

to your point about it not being convincing enough, idk. fans are already coming up with different theories about cults, the mystery surrounding the setting, comparisons to the Midsommar film. i can't say that they'd be doing all of that theorizing if Lorde didn't mention a "universe." but all in all i think it's just words man. she's an expressive person, especially in those emails. and she's excited about her work.

but i appreciate your views as always
