Rob Pelinka says when the Lakers embarked on their search, they wanted to see if they "could do something a little different."

First mention of the second apron! Pelinka said the Lakers have to "modernize" and lean into player development.

Rob Pelinka mentions Austin Reaves, Max Christie, Rui Hachimura and Jalen Hood-Schifino as members of the Lakers’ young core.

JJ Redick says this process has been "surreal" and that he is "grateful" for Rob Pelinka and Jeanie Buss entrusting him for this position.

"I have never coached in the NBA before. I don't know if you've heard this," JJ Redick said. Said his motivation is service and competition, wants to work with players.

JJ Redick said that during his stint with the Mavericks at the end of his career, former Dallas coach Rick Carlisle "planted the seed" in his mind to get into coaching

Pelinka says Redick was always in the "Plan A" pool of candidates. Pelinka says he was keeping JJ abreast of the search. Said they were transparent with one another.

JJ Redick says he wants to implement a “competitive culture” with this Lakers team.

JJ Redick on the Lakers' interest/pursuit of Dan Hurley: “At no point was my ego or feelings hurt or bruised in any way."

JJ Redick says that Rob Pelinka maintained communication with him throughout the Lakers' pursuit of Dan Hurley and he understood it, pointing out the vast difference in Hurley's NCAA coaching success and him only coaching youth basketball up to this point.

Redick: "I have zero coaching experience in the NBA, but I'd argue that I'm very experienced." He traced his last 22 years going back to playing for Coach K, 15 seasons as player, and then with his exposure to NBA head coaches, vet players, etc. since his playing career ended. Much of what he's been doing has been building towards his desire to be a head coach.
