u never been a fan of his if hooks like that isnt your cup to tea. thats classic Lupe right there. dont know whats your problem

I've been a fan since 05 got every mixtape every loosie, bought every album up to T&Y some of which i bought twice and I've seen him live multiple times. Lupe is in my top 3. That hook is not good dawg.

    Like you said "improvised"

T&Y is Lupe with good hooks. This album sounds like he only care about his verses and the hooks/song writing is an afterthought.

I'd say after Drogas Wave, Lupe's kinda trailed off on his ambition musically and is fine with just having fun with his lyrical concepts while not caring as much about the production and the songwriting.

This, much like DMIZ, is solid but kinda got nothing to offer beyond great raps over decent production. The immediate songs that grab me are Samurai, No. 1 Headband, and Palaces but I don't think I'd return to anything else.

    I kinda agree

Im also not sure what changed in Soundtrackks production. These last few projects dont have the same ambitious production as his older s***

Great album. I need someone to talk to tho, can’t sleep

  • Jun 30, 2024

drogas wave and the cool are probably my fav lu projects

  • Looks like the album was recorded during the same period as DMIZ and also done at a home studio

This album and DMIZ just prove that Lupe is the greatest rapper alive rn no exaggeration he can still spit even better than he used to back then even with age

I mean I still think it’s amazing for what it is. I imagine if we ever get Skulls it’ll be his most ambitious to date

Hope on the next one we get more Sun God Sam type songs tho

I think its mostly just that the requirements for Lupe have changed. I remember during T&Y, Lupe was talking about his songs from a structural and musical aspect and it was clear he wanted the music to mean something more than beyond just his lyrics. But now that he's fully independent, I imagine having no pressure or need to meet anyone's expectations has reduced him into just doing what he wants to do for fun which is to just rap over decent beats and just explore what he finds lyrically fascinating.

This and DMIZ were recorded at home during the pandemic that’s probs why it’s a lower quality tbh

“I'm just creating at this point. I try not to do the whole artist career thing anymore,” Fiasco shared in our exclusive interview last week. “I think my career is in other spaces. I do music now purely for the joy of it, not even for the entertainment value of the public. It's more about being creative and adding to the discography.”

yeah I think for him that just means being creative from a lyrical standpoint because thats whats always been the priority for him. I think the music and songwriting side was something moreso requested from the industry and to a degree he also knew he had to do that to build a fanbase. Now that hes got his fanbase, he can just chill and do what interests him

    Interesting.

I wonder if this shift happened before or after Drogas Wave, because that album has more fleshed out songs that are also artistically rich like WAV Files.

I wish the album had more jazz hip hop songs like Samurai.
