On ep 8 easy to binge but not super grabbed yet. Feel like this is gonna get way better so im sticking on
Edit: s*** started getting good round ep 10
On season 2 now
Come back and let us know how you liking it as you watch or have any questions 😉
Can you elaborate?
Well most people don’t like the wire season 2 because it introduces a flock of new characters that you have to watch (characters that are almost universally not well liked) before they reintegrate the main characters.
Season 4, which some say is the best for how it depicts inner city youth, to me is the worst for its focus on characters that I absolutely could not care less about, plus, a lot of major characters that made the show great don’t appear much or at all in this season
Mad men is so good, only season I thought was kinda a slog was 6 just cause at that point they were kind of beating the dead horse of don’s dysfunction|| Altho ||when the daughter walks in is a SSS tier scene

Oh I see it’s a preference kinda thing, I respect that
Need to rewatch season 2 cause I wasn’t into it but after finishing the show I realized that it was a necessity to the whole of the story.
You’re the first I’ve seen to put down season 4. I deeply relate to the kids in that season and the shift of power was well executed in the writer’s room imo. I know that final death scene in season 3 hurt but that’s testament to the world these characters lived in, there’s no happy endings just kings wearing the crown for a while
If that shift in season 4 didn’t happen I think the show would’ve gotten stale at some point.

I agree with that, to be fair I couldn’t get past s4 e4 because I don’t care at all about Carcetti or Prez and then McNaulty is hardly in it, among other character shifts. I didn’t find Marlo an interesting enough replacement for Barksdale
But I’m rewatching now cause the plot for season 5 sounded interesting as f***
Like ziggy is annoying but I didn’t mind the dock s*** at all especially the boss maybe cause I grew up around my dad in construction and my grandpa sound construction and dock work among other things

S6 was painful to watch for that reason. My pick for the worst too

Wasn’t bad, it just felt unneeded
Im on season 2 ep 4 i think
Main takeaways so far
Really great but not STUNNING or devasting like sopranos or the wire so far. but i have a feeling that something wild is brewing. Don is a fire character
Keepin an eye out on dons wife and peggy something off about those 2

I would say that the last few eps of season 2 onward is when the show really hits its gear. Show is more of a vibe

What u mean more of a vibe specifically
What u mean more of a vibe specifically
Like the show is about vibe more than it is about plot
Don't look for sopranos style betrayals or huge WTF moments
Ah okay. Yeah i figured it would be a show like that. Like its a straight up DRAMA thru and thru.
What i really like about it so far is its subtlety. Its more subtle than even sopranos. alot of the dialogue is like body language which is nice and forces u to pay attention, all the actors are pretty amazing.
What would u say mad men has over the other dramas in the big three?

personal answer: (everyone might have their own reasons)
1. relatability. the ark of Peggy is identifiable, still holds true to 2020, and really like isnt male/female specific. its specific to anyone wanting to achieve something great, and the work/personal/family challenges along the way. theres so much to it. 'The Suitcase' is perfection.
2. how history has been woven into every single decision in the show. idk any period pieces done to this degree of perfection. from costume, to set design, to the actual way they talk. everything about it ive never been more fascinated by a decade or environment as mad men.
3. its largely a show based off the core elements of sopranos: a guy that is depressed and is looking for ways to feel something, but cant help it and does s***ty things sometimes. sounds basic, but I like the parallels between sopranos/mad men, and how mad men did it differently but just as effective. the more you watch both they more you notice what I mean.
I could give like 20 more reasons. probably one of few on this site that got to go to Matthew Weiners presentation at TIFF way back for final season.

I see i see, so far i agree with everything u said esp the deep historical context they nailed so perfectly. They got that early 60s era down pat and its not corny. It feels real.

Also lotta of parallels with six feet under (another goat series) and I always got the sensation that brenda is like some future female version incarnation of don when I started watching it lmao.

I kinda agree but did you like first half of season 7?
the threesome looked so cliche and it's easily the worst moment of the series for me

I don’t remember 7 part 1 much but I remember him being in California and it sucking ass made a lot of sense, Altho it probably wasn’t much better than 6 tbh

They kept doing my boy wrong
Season 2 finale was amazing
Goddamn peggy is an emotional menace :jordancry: :jordancry: feel bad for pete even tho hes kind of a d\*\*\*. Peggy aint have to do him like that man. that was brutal. that was the first time bro cried on the show too
