    You changing the goalposts bruh

I never said Superman was a better film than The Odyssey

I'm talking about you complaining the a side character with 5 minutes of screentime in Superman wasn't well written, then ignoring the numerous characters who that could be said the same about in Odyssey

Its not about her amount of screen time its about if a characters writing is bad, they feel one dimensional, they are there for jokes why are they there at all ?

that sentence reads "feels like a real character" as in fits with the environment. Isnt just there to tell a joke . He is the start of the movie foreshadowing the entire movie. I asked you for one central moment with hawkgirl or something she says that in any way establishes her character outside of a joke or killing the prime minister ? you didnt answer

Hawkgirl and the rest of the justice gang involving themselves in the conflict even after their stance on it earlier in the movie is central to the movie theme of superman inspiring hope in others

Not every side character needs to be two or three dimensional

Travis Scott's character in The Odyssey literally does absolutely nothing and we learn absolutely nothing about him, yet you're saying he "feels real"

    ?

What do you know about Travis Scott's character in The Odyssey?

He foreshadows the plot of the entire movie then gets on his way.

Now if he was there then at the end he killed a major character then you would have a point.

My issue is her role is so small but she does something so large out of nowhere

a character with 5 minutes of screen time kills a politiician which will have major effects on how heroes are viewed and future movies

Inspires so much hope that they kill a politician? Yes I get the basic premise of the plot. I dont think it was greatly executed.

"Does something so large" and it's killing a genocidal politician character whose name in the film neither of us remember

why comic book movies remain where they are at is because some cling to excuses. I can say glad that movie did well, box office did well. Break apart how it was still even with 2 hours bloated at times and rushed through other moments it should have sat with. People who likely havent even rewatched the movie ( I have) come in to say "NAH IT WAS PEAK ODYSSEY HAS ONE DIMENSIONAL CHARACTERS NOT EVERY CHARACTER NEEDS AN ARC"

    and all this other bullshit

Inspire hope that they went back on their position of involving themselves in politics because they saw a country bout to get massacred

Ok yeah I think the arc a side character has totally depends on the film itself

Like is it more an ensemble or a character study? Are you trying to build a world to live in? etc.

Like did I need to know everything about Sarah Sherman's character in Camp Miasma? No. That character was so minor and not that connected to the story so I could kind of care less what happened to them. At the same time if they are vital to the core of the story then they should have something going on.

I think Hawkgirl's role technically could've been done by any number of female B and C List DC heroines.

MJPPlus the only good cbm fan

Superman inspiring that when it should have kind of existed within them on a basic level with justice in their name. Also yes its partly politics but really its lex plan the whole time so its getting involved with the villain. They get involved with a giant monster lex creation. They would get involved with the dimension splitting but they know superman can handle it. I dont think the conflict needed to be orchestrated by Lex felt like BVS all over again but this time highly unnecessary

I never said the movie was peak. I think it's a fine, serviceable movie. Not exceptional, but not bad either. The Odyssey is clearly the better film.

I was talking about one very specific criticism that you now keep trying to change the topic on

are you really adding on to it when the central point many of us are saying is that it was bloated with characters. You stated comic books do a lot of characters. When the point of my post was many movies do many characters but they do them better. Side characters feel like they have their own lives. Worlds feel lived in. All of which has been explained to you many times in regards to MCU , DCU, DCEU faults and even hero movies that exemplify it well or not well throughout including before universes existed

EVERY SINGLE TIME YOU FALL ON THE CBM CARD "OMG YOU GUYS ONLY CRITIQUE CBM AND HERO MOVIES LIKE THIS ITS ADAPTING A COMIC BOOK"

As if you dont see us in threads of all movies discussing movies with the same passion. 300-500 million dollar budget movies or movies that hope to hit a billion and their fans say "oh this 100% hitting a billion will get critiqued". S*** I have said I didn't love the acting in dune 1 and think dune 2 was over gassed but I hope I love 3.

  • Sep 1

Being a comic book movie is not an excuse for many things people make excuses for whether that be DCEU,DCU or MCU. The excuses is often what stops them from advancing to become better films.

Yeah but thats the point of their inclusion they're corporate heroes. They're not in it for the justice, they're in it for the money. So superman presence inspired them to do it for something more than money.

It was lex plan but its still an earthly conflict, no aliens, no monsters.

I will give you lex orchestrating the conflict wasnt absolutely needed. But it was a comic callback, and gave lex his mastermind characterization so I dont mind

  • Sep 1

Jimmy Olson with Gorilla Grodd is getting an entire tv show . While you say "hawkgirl is just in it 5 minutes who cares if she has one dimensional bad writing and screeches then kills a prime minister a major plot point to see HEROES KILL A HUMAN BEING "

the comic callbacks get to be fan service because again its that unnecessary. even with the messiness of bvs it felt more human in bvs the conflict and interference. at least in ultimate. trial, drones, fulll questioning of getting involved. H

like this movie has baby joey, metamoprho, guy gardner, hawkgirl, supergil ( cameo), mr terrific, lex, ultraman, engineer, krypto

and more and some of you are bugging at me saying in a 2 hour run time it tries to bite off a bit too much for it to chew

Fanservice I dont think lex being responsible for the conflict, hurts the movie.

I just think he wanted a lived in universe which is why he included those characters as added texture. But not all of them are there to function as important roles.
