almost that transfer rumour time - who will be this years Frankie de Jong or will it again be Frankie? can't wait to find out.

seems like glazers are staying and we're getting jimmy and his cronies too unfortunately.

but, till then, here's my ratings for the season:

de gea - 6. he did make some typical good saves, but had a lot of calamities too. not his worst season, but not a great season at all.

awb - 7. post World Cup, hasn't done much wrong. way better at going forward now too with good runs (like today to get the penalty)

varane - 7. if we play him once a week, he'll do wonders beside licha.

licha - 7.5. good first season, that salah goal will be remembered for awhile but a great signing so far.

shaw - 7. clearly capable to play CB when needed, and had an injury free pretty consistent season with good buildup play

Casemiro - 7. started out like a man on a mission, faded post World Cup not the same player.

Eriksen - 6. doesn't have the legs / physicality / defending skills needed to play CM. some nice Scholes esque passes but needs to be dropped.

Antony - 6.5. arsenal goal is a top 5 moment of season, and looked better post WC imo. good first season, needs better end product / decision making. hopefully it comes otherwise he'll be nani 2.0. which is a good player but not an $80M player.

Bruno - 6.5. too much whining and diving. has that desire to win that most of this team doesn't, but idk if that makes up for it nor do I think hes really a good captain. idk if we'll ever remove captaincy from him but I feel limited by his attitude affecting our players.

Rashford - 7.5. on fire till injuries late in the season. clearly player of the season, and still could do better with finishing and buildup.

martial - 5. I think thats how many games he played.

heaton/butland - n/a. can't think of them ever actually getting a game. need better backup GK's for sure.

dalot - 6.5. fire pre WC, and I like him/AWB competition for RB.

lindelof - 6.5. solid backup performances. respek for moving above Maguire in pecking order.

Maguire - 6. surely hes gone.

malacia - 6. fine as a backup, I like his attitude even if skill is maybe lacking for now, but has potential.

fred - 6. usual Fred season, which is fine.

McTom - 6. had that stretch of scoring for fun for united/scotland. would sell him this summer

Pellistri - 6.5. idk why we don't play him more, every time he impressed me.

sancho - 5. he maybe played a total of 50 good minutes of football this season. waste of space.

nacho - 7. breakthrough seasons don't go better than this really

horse - 6. the anti berbatov enough has been said about him. gave us a good 4-5 months and gave it his all, skill and finishing isn't there to be dangerous at this level.

ETH - 6.5. 7-0 won't be just forgotten, but finishing third and winning a cup and making 2 finals overall is nothing to snooze on. although style of play was a bit of a snooze.

    5 player wish list:
gk: id take anybody. costa, Belgium dude rumoured last week, raya. can't do another year of de gea.

CM: dunno who's available, don't like idea of Mount unless hes a backup which he wont be.

    striker: kane, osi, vlahovic.

backup striker: Rasmus or some unknown like why do we have 30+ scouts if we can't find the next Alvarez.

backup gk: anyone thats better than dumb (heaton) and dumber (butland).

    ideally sell:
    tuanzabe
    bailly
    telles
    henderson
    maguire
mctom (or Fred if Fulham drop their small bag)
    sancho
    martial
    loan diallo to PL team.
    release de gea.

casemiro was good/very good way beyond the WC. he didn't start really fading until after that 3 match suspension.

Has he played to the individuals though? We still pass it round the back and have all season with Maguire, De Gea etc in the squad.

Plenty of times this season itā€™s been raised into question why we play the way we do as the manager should be aware of strengths/weaknesses.

As Keane said, De Gea has gotten away with murder thanks to a terrible back line. Now thatā€™s not a thing as much.

Letā€™s see if the same will happen with Ten Hag once he gets more of ā€œhis squadā€ after another summer in charge.

What do you suggest? Hoof it long every time when we have no target man or anyone who can win a header up top?

He got rid of Maguire surprise the defence are a lot better and more assured, but he was able to do that because he had options there

He has 0 options everywhere else with quality

We have played every week since the season started with 0 midweek break (including match recovery rest ect) so i wonder how much time he actually got in training to implement his style fully

Iā€™m sorry but there is enough to see that we are completely heading in the right direction under this guy, and if your not behind him I have nothing left to say to you

Isn't that more evidence that he's playing to the individuals, though? Large parts of our football aren't dissimilar to what it's been for the past 3-4 years. It's what most of the players in this squad know, and that's not going to change until most of them are gone. We're so far away from the football that made Ten Hag a commodity, and the football I assume he wants to play here. We get a glimpse of it here or there but it's nowhere near consistent enough so he resorts to what the players know.

Funny as again I thought he was happy with his squad depth. His own words, supposed to back and believe the manager 100% arenā€™t we?

Biggest defeat in however long to our biggest rivals & thatā€™s not even it this season. A catastrophic set of records youā€™d expect if weā€™d kept Moyes for 3 years. Not in one season with the ā€œbest thing since Fergusonā€

We ended the season scraping top 4 desperately looking for squad depth excuses whilst giving City a third of their treble. Apparently this bloke got some big decisions right though. Ending up in top 4 and carabao was a good day out but it feels a bit flattering when everyone else was so far off the mark.

It is clear to me weā€™re somewhat on the right track but Iā€™m far far from convinced, you listen to half the ETH fans and youā€™d think we were 2nd 1 point off top, the goalposts change to ā€œtop 4 was the goalā€ etc

This is the big summer now. Weā€™ve heard all year once he gets more time in charge heā€™ll ship off the dead wood, build ā€œhisā€ team. Letā€™s see it now. If not, weā€™ll know what this manager is all about.

You lost me in the first paragraph, if you honestly believe what Erik ten hag is saying in interviews about the squad he currently has then I donā€™t think you are all there upstairs

We were/ are where we are as a club = a mess

He is the first manager to come in and set the standards and seems like the first to have some kind of authority and balls to make these changes, it was never going to happen in one season - The goal was always top 4 and maybe a trophy in his first season , a good start now build from here. Itā€™s a 3 year project at most, believe

But i see you in here all the time with negative posts, so maybe thatā€™s just the kind of guy you are so Iā€™ll leave you to it

First manager to come in and set standards?

What standards are those? 7-0 to Liverpool, 6-3 to city, 4-0 Brentford, 5-2 Sevilla across two legs

Itā€™s not about being negative. Heā€™s done alright in places. Heā€™s also been f***ing shambolic in others as proven above.

Realistically heā€™s not getting any blind praise that heā€™s the man for the job just yet. I hope to god he is. But the signs that he isnā€™t, are far too alarming when they do show up.

wondering whats next for united then

    osimhen? vlahovic? kolo muani? thuram?

  • Jun 4, 2023

osimhen is gonna cost big bucks cant really see united splashing almost all the money on him even though heā€™s excellent

vlahovic might be the perfect choice right now honestly

i love kolo muani but it would be a risky move tbh, not cheap either

and thuram isnā€™t starter quality i would say, incredible bench option though

  • no one else really comes to my mind..

perhaps a young gun like hojlund or ferguson who look super promising but it would be a huge gamble

dont think united need another promising player, they really do need a reliable striker who can bag at least 20 goals a season, kane would have been perfect

  • Rejecting Madrid would such a big deal in the football world, pretty much unprecedented, everybody calling him a loser, staying in his comfort zone etc. If they go all in on him and somehow miss out, I just don't see how he can go back to Spurs. Like at that point you gotta do an interview, Ronaldo-style but with less of a prick than Piers Morgan, and do everything to force your way to another Prem team (United). Take your career out of Levy's hand man

  • I don't like calling players losers, but Levy definitely is a loser. Kane will have an opportunity to distance himself immediately from that anchor with Madrid, if he doesn't like that he's got to create another opportunity by forcing himself out. That will probably involve being ruthless and hurting the Spurs fans feelings, but that's what you have to do to wrestle control of your career from a menace. A lot of United's legends pulled some bullshit and are forgiven, Spurs fans will understand eventually

  • Jun 4, 2023

Iā€™m sorry but there is no way Kane would leave them prem in my eyes

he is so close to that goal scoring record, the fact he has gone so long without winning but got ever closer to that record, I believe he wants that more than anything

itā€™s between us and maybe Newcastle if they start cooking

Madrid unlikely as much as pull they normally are
