Defending isn’t just beating pace and power wingers in 1 v 1 iso situations, though.

Backpost defending, tracking back, winning aerial duels from set pieces etc. Wan Bissaka massively struggles with these elements of the game.

Dalot is an above average fullback who excels to a passable standard at near enough every area. Wan Bissaka is elite percentile in certain elements, and then subpar in others. And that’s not even getting into the other side of things with passing, ball progression, and impact in the final third.

I don’t understand why this is so controversial.

these awb fan boys are so cringe, 4 minute clips of him slide tackling like that’s the only part of defending he’s terrible at everything else and going forward while he has improved is still so below par

The RB market is washed right now, who are we going to buy to improve that position that can do everything better than what we have?

35 mil budget aswell btw, and we are already replacing every other position according to the thread btw

That’s why we need a new rightback imo to replace Dalot. Keep AWB for the 6 or 7 games in the season where he can pocket a winger and play the new guy the rest.

But there are many positions I think we need improvement in first so I wouldn’t mind keeping both this summer. Rather get a leftback in first.

Exactly this, we need to strengthen other positions, so I don’t think we should be in a rush to sell one of them, especially when the selling price for AWB is rumoured to be so low.

But if we’re bringing in somebody new, you’d keep the rb who can pocket the pacy wingers because that is needed in some games.

Yeah, do you pick the guy who's a bit s*** going forward (not as bad as people make out either) but is a very good defender

    OR

Do you pick the guy who's not a stand out at anything

Neither Dalot or AWB are long term solutions, but if you're keeping a defender, pick the one that can actually defend

    And if 2 quick videos of Dalots horror shows this season mean nothing, let's go the stats route;

We can use stats to prove a lot of things.

AWB does not control the ball well enough.

He has improved inmensely tho i will say that

  • Jun 7, 2024

You simply cannot expect to hide fullbacks anymore at the highest level. If you watch Man United and don’t see that Wan-Bissaka is constantly someone that other clubs isolate as a weak link, I have to question what you are seeing.

youre def wrong on this bruv. idk what these stats really mean, but eye test like dalot gives you way more and has turned into a great on the ball player without being a liability defending. hes a good leader too.

ultimately its disrespectful by Southgate to drop some of these names. you dont need 26 players. like at most we end up using 16. rashford/grealish have put in work for that England shirt the last 2-3 tournaments. could just bring em to get the trophy.

    nah f*** all that

first time his nomination finally isn’t p**** and is actually reflecting and taking in consideration the real time forms of players

ā€œrashford/grealish have put in work for that England shirt the last 2-3 tournaments. could just bring em to get the trophyā€ā€¦.. so what? that’s some s*** and alibistic mentality, the nomination should reflect players’ current form and not care about what used to be some time in the past….. might as well throw sterling into this conversation too if he was taking these two🤣🤣

this the first time that southgate finally showed that he has some balls and isn’t a totally alibistic spineless c***, good on him for leaving these two at home…. not disrespectful of him at all

disagree. you have 26 spots its a joke. nobody needs a team of 26. can easily bring the guys that have been there since day 1 instead of other players that won't play anyway.

i just don’t think that’s a good mentality or even a good look for the coach. rather have players who actually deserved it for their seasons and put in some work instead of players of rashford’s mentality if they’re not gonna play anyways.

you never know how many injuries will be there and those guys like wharton and more gonna be hungry for a chance. rather have that than some star players who are burnt out at the moment and would look annoyed all the time on bench for not playing a single minute and you’re risking them possibly throwing a tantrum and even negatively affecting the team spirit.

not a fan of nominating players for former merit honestly.

unless, the only case i respect it if it’s someone who has great contribution to the dressing room and/or lots of respect, not a case of these two i’m afraid. maybe jackie would could be good for the dressing room though, i guess he’s a fun guy to be around so in that case it would be somewhat understandable ig. but if you would have zero contribution and you’re there only for past merits i’m not with that.

Rashford I'm happy we didn't take.

Grealish we should have taken. When you need to run down the clock and keep hold of the ball he's the best at that.

  • they need to impulsively sack southgate after today and get some real brexit coach like sean dyche for the euros to finally bring it home

Pre-tournament friendlies mean less than nothing.

But I think England will struggle in this tournament because of how poor the squad balance is. They give me Euro 2016 vibes
