Nah Onana is definitely a lot more comfortable on the ball than De Gea, it’s just that the guy legitimately has some of the weakest wrists I’ve ever seen on a goalkeeper, this man cant hold a ball in his hands if his life depended on it
I disagree, I think Onana is the worst on the ball goalkeeper of any big club. Anytime he kicks it long it’s off target. He’s ok at little 5 yard layoffs to his Centre backs that’s it.

We occasionally get a good pass but his on the ball ability is massively overrated
He’s positionally awful, a terrible shot stopper & yeah not great on the ball
I’m not convinced he was better than de gea last season. De gea was a better shot stopper & both were miserable mistake merchants
preseason is meaningless, don’t get too wound up
While I agree that pre-season is meaningless, I think it’s completely fair to be frustrated that we more or less have the same squad as last season and it’s already proving a problem.

I've been saying this for months and idk if people think I'm kidding or if it's hyperbole but if De Gea was in goal last season with that defense we'd genuinely be fighting relegation.
Onana's goals prevented was approaching 4 (second best in the league) and his save percentage was also second best in the league. I've seen some argue that the amount of shots he faced contributed to those good stats, and there's partial truth in that, but the foundation of a good shot stopper still has to exist.
In comparison, 22/23 De Gea had negative goals prevented, and a significantly lower save percentage, this with an exponentially better defense.
Onana has mistakes in him, and for whatever reason his distribution is nowhere near the level it was at at Ajax/Inter. But a terrible defense magnifies those mistakes, a good defense should limit those mistakes.
A plank of wood would be better than De Gea.

We got told this last year and look how that went

I’d agree if a lot of Onana’s issues aren’t so self inflicted.
You could put Rio and Vida in front of him, if he’s in the wrong place and chucking it into his own net, nothing can help that.
I think they’re both terrible lol. Yet another ETH pick that backfired

Put rio and Vida in front and he’d make them look like s***.
Literally our problems start with Onana.

Agree we definitely need a striker, and maybe a pair of midfielders
lost our opening match vs Swansea this season
This wasn’t even the good ol days lmao but how I miss those times.

I'm pretty optimistic about where we're at now
