In the middle of this and its been a wild ride so far. Story is pretty much dark asf right at the beginning and you definitely don't appeal to the main character but the road to martial arts in the manga he takes is intense. And the art is good too.

I stopped reading beserk years ago when I reached the recent release. It was when the magic girl met the guts gang for the first time.
