Can’t wait for that Marty watch on my phone
The face Timmy hits here is so good. That crying euphoric when he realises he finally did it and before it hits him fully
One trick I noticed they used so Marty wasn’t 100% unlikable by the audience— a lot of times when he would do something rude, like yelling at his mom for drinking in his room when HE was the one who left the glass of OJ in there, he’d then turn around immediately and do something nice, like giving her the Egyptian pyramid rock as a present.
He’s like a bi polar sour patch kid
Probably the best movie of the year. Much better than Uncut Gems or Good Times. Just a classic screwball comedy driven by grindset immorality. Great role for Timmy. Impeccable casting down the line. Jack Fisk seamless production design. Great score.
I had just read Budd Schulberg's What Makes Sammy Run? which is highly relevant in regard to second and third generation immigrant Jews in America assimilating. The titular Sammy is very much a Marty figure. I wouldn't be surprised if they've read it. An essential Hollywood text written by the son of a studio head.
A lot of silly discourse around this one however. People were presenting the "actually Marty is bad" thing like it wasn't the text of the movie. And I don't think you're supposed to root for Japanese Nationalism either. Endo is just a guy who is good at ping pong.

Josh and Bronstein have made a trilogy of immoral guys getting backed into corners and trying and failing to get out of them. It's all problem solving and anxiety. Helps when you have Robert Pattinson, Adam Sandler, and Timothy Chalamet of course. You have to go out of your way to make them unlikable. That's the real battle.

Nah definitely. Another trick (as seen in Sopranos, TWBB, Breaking bad) you see the protagonist doing something nice (or heroic in some cases) before you see them doing anything f***ed up.
First impressions is a real thing. That’s why we see Tony Soprano taking care of ducks before anything else.
Would’ve loved just seeing a movie of Marty and Tyler hanging out and hustling
It's called White Men Can't Jump!

Same way good time is originally called After Hours

Great cast except f*** them for casting Kevin O'Leary's traitor ass
