Not really that random. He fits into the story pretty well and he’s street level just like Spider-Man

I felt the whole thing was very in line with other action/superhero movie relationships. Even down to the cliche “I saved your life in insert location here”
They did a similar thing with Budapest to establish history between Clint and Natasha. And SW: Ep 2 did the same thing to catch us up on the dynamic between Obi-Wan and Anakin after the time jump from Ep 1.
