I don't need to know who he is. I don't see this guy as Cyclops

If you don't care, you don't need to be replying to me.

Honestly as someone who admittedly mainly knows these characters from the 90’s cartoon reruns on Disney/Jetix and X Men Evolution and the Bryan Singer trilogy

This oddly fits as I’ve always seen Cyclops as the nice guy cuck to Jean Grey always truly wanting to f*** Logan lmaooo

But I’m probably mixing that up and its more Logan who wants Jean

to your point, i actually wish they didn't take such a swing with the first movie. I feel like they were a little desperate with first steps, and immediately went for broke with galactus.

I think something smaller scale would've been a way better vehicle to get everyone on board with the characters and they could've saved the plot for a second movie that would've been received way better because we would've cared more about reed and sue having a kid etc.

But i'm firm in the idea that saving the world narratives don't work for first films in a superhero franchise because we have have no idea what the world is and have no investment in it being saved

I enjoyed the fact that they put a lot into portraying their world/their place in it as very different than the normal MCU. like that added a lot to the movie for them to go "hey yeah guys, this is scary so let us handle it, please contribute to the worldwide effort to help us fix it". Like that was awesome and a great reason to have the "save the world" narrative on part 1, the contrast

Imo of course. Normally I'd agree with you but this had a good and stylistic/thematic reason to be like that

    hmm.

growing up as a black boy and watching xmen get shat on by society kinda hit my heart as a kid. idk how that can be debunked.

Lmao they’re trying to get the LETTERBOXD NIGGAS AFTER THEY LOST RT 🤣 🤣

RT had a much bigger influence on the perception of the MCU pre-Phase 4 than anyone realizes; one could argue the same of post-Phase 4 MCU. That is not to say RT scores are connected to “quality” or that everyone consciously uses RT as gospel, however; glowing RT scores paired with the novelty of unabashed superhero films being not only critically acclaimed but critically crowned was a staple selling point of the MCU’s prime. It worked even unconsciously. The DCEU was even a perfect yin to the MCU’s yang because of the DCEU’s famously bad RT scores

When the MCU finally got a rotten score there was palpable shock in the air. This becomes a repeated thing for Marvel, thus that mythic air of an unshakable foundation of satisfactory quality was blown in a more symbolic sense…or tangible which depends on how much one values RT

So now I think they’re going for the aforementioned Letterboxd niggas. But the thing is it might not even be literally Letterboxd niggas. Simply a certain type of audience, hell it could be A24 mfs. But that’s who Marvel seems to be going for rn

But what makes you tie Hoffman or Johnson to letterboxd ?

"based on" was debunked, not that there aren't genuine parallels to Black history.

Read the post but it feels slightly vague . Me personally I’m open to them casting whoever as long as they get the soul and writing of the character . I get for some people will want them to look like character as well as costume design . In all likelihood they will cast 20s or early 30s for these roles . Especially if Sadie jean so more x men evolution type

We have to look at these characters every page, so that visual element is inextricably tied to the soul of a character. They are separated because the cultural notion that aesthetics are a shallow aspect of art that exists below the text and writing of a work

But in a medium where it’s: only considered a separate medium from literature in the first place because of, titled after, and presented based on the mere visual aspect of, they cannot be separated. Marvel and DC characters’ souls are inherently tied to their appearances. Not to mention the whole costume thing

The more I think about it that’s actually the perfect dynamic to play out over this generation of X Men movies lmao

Especially if they spend a few movies without Logan even being there and Cyclops putting all this work in to cuff Jean and then Logan just shows up like “I Gotcha b****, Bub.”

sure, the triangle is. but the key thing is it doesn't have to be romantic. and ive heard enough critique bout this from casual viewers, that exploring how they work together platonically would allow everyone to see them navigate different relationships with other x-men

So yeah I’m tired of the quirky MCU casting as of late. I’m even more tired of the “smart” take from the subset of fans who counter this ire with statements like “the way a character looks doesn’t matter only the acting does”. Nigga this isn’t based on regular literature we have established ideas on what these characters look like, even across different artists that span decades. And film is a visual medium. Why the hell should good acting and looking the part be treated as exclusive too? Like yall can’t get folks who are good actors that also look the part? If that was the case, we shouldn’t have RDJ/Evans/Hemsworth/Boseman/Jackson/Cumberbatch and I could go on honestly. But this new s***? Yeah it’s putting me off and I can confidently say I don’t think I’m the only one

Also f*** First Steps. I’m not being nice about that s*** no more. F*** the cast, f*** the cinematography, f*** the set locations, f*** the lifeless dialogue, f*** the lack of charisma or chemistry, f*** that boring and limp plot. Yes they’re good at the versions of the characters that we see on the screen, yes they’re good actors in general. But that’s not the fantastic four, I will never get behind that cast. Again, here, I see the play with the quirky casting

Same with Johnsson as T’Challa Jr. and please don’t hit me with the “he’s his son” s***, he’s supposed to fill the void of the original Black Panther and he does not evoke that. It’s like sure acting is ofc paramount, but it gets to a line with me when it comes to adapting these characters I read and love idc, after that line I either don’t care about the acting skills or that’s all that matters. In this case idc about his acting skills I don’t want that nigga as a supplement for T’Challa

And I’m wondering where the newfound quirky casting is coming from. Are they trying to get back into the good graces of RT so by doing quirky casting for major properties with “good actors” they appear to have improved taste or prestige? But at least there’s Sadie Sink and Ryan Gosling, two casting choices that feel like the pre-bad reviews Marvel who casted tastefully as well as fitting for the characters

I dont need to say much about the quirky decision to cast Tony Stark from your same universe as debut Doctor Doom. He’ll kill it for sure but that’s yet another example of the quirky s*** albeit in a different way. With that being said, please cast the X-Men close to the vest like with Sadie Sink. The X-Men is my favorite faction of the Marvel universe, I don’t wanna see none of that quirky casting bullshit; we got enough of it with Fox. And I know niggas probably not gonna like this but I had to say it

Lmfao that was a lot of words just to say you think Jonsson is ugly
