No it doesn't. Mutants are no more dangerous than any other super-powered being.

If mutants are feared by humans, then all superheroes should be feared by humans

Its not really showed all that much in the mcu besides like AOU, but civilians of the marvel universe dont really think all that highly of their heroes either

But i agree with you that it is illogical for them to like spider-man but not the x-men, but at the same time it wouldnt be illogical for someone to not like both

The civil rights parallel only truly works if humans and mutants are intrinsically the same but they're not, which is why they shouldn't be too heavy handed about it and focus more on the replacement theory aspect of why humans dont like mutants

  • kinda reminds me of critiques the incredibles gets for having an ostensibly ayn/randian philosophy. there's a lot to mine / that they cud play w here fs

So far we have been introduced to one major mutant in the MCU: Jean Grey.

It would be logical for humans in the MCU to fear Jean Grey specifically, not mutantkind overall.

The same way that in the early days of the MCU the only major hero that was feared by the public was the Hulk. Superheroes in general were praised: Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Spider-Man, etc. etc.

It would absolutely be illogical for humans to fear an entire race of people based on the actions of one individual, while simultaneously adoring non-mutant superheroes as a whole, with the only difference being that the former group were born with their powers.

The allegory isn't hard to make sense whatsoever because it makes perfect sense in the comics... which is where mutants co-exist alongside other heroes... just like the MCU

Alright, part of the disconnect here is that I’m jumping ahead a bit and predicting how marvel studios will write this out. The assumption is that the Jean grey incident basically opens the door for the disclosure of mutant-kind. Obviously, the logical thing is to fear her since mutants aren’t public knowledge yet, but I can see some entity (DoDC?) revealing that there are essentially more “Jean greys” hidden among us and then fear/prejudice ensues. There’s virtually no other reason for marvel to make Jean a villain than to lay that groundwork

Most superheroes are results of accidents or events that change them. They’re usually conscious of this. They later become public figures. Lots of them have even gained respect from the public over time

Mutants can be anybody. Your classmate who can liquify your insides for no reason. Your boss who can read and control your thoughts without your awareness. Some d***head on the freeway who decides to crush your car like a soda can just because you cut him off and no one can prove he did it. They’re also a much larger population than traditional superheroes.

Then you have young mutants who are unaware of their powers until they’re forced to find out in some horrific way (by accident of course)

This is where the fear lies

Because you know when an act of terrorist happens in New York humans logically only blame the person who did it and dont try to make it a group punishment.

That is clearly part of what they are going for. What Jean did will be considered an act of terrorism and fear she could or her kind could control any humans. Some will view Metzger as evil others will see him as necessary

Mutants are born with the X-Gene that fundamentally separates them from humans and spurs fear over human evolution or human enslavement. Power sets are far more extreme than scientifically mutated beings like SM and F4, who often decide to build costumes, act for good and work for governments.

No one wants to give birth to a powered freak that accidentally kills people, crawls into your mind or shoots uncontrollable laser beams out their eyes and makes life inconvenient. The most powerful Marvel beings with comparable powers are gods or outright villains.

Just imagine if this actually happened. There’d global interest in hunting them down, experimenting on them and halting threats. And if it was your family member? Forget about it

Nowhere to be found in X-Men 97

Much rather have Iceman over Beast if we had to choose

Need Ice Man , Torch and Spidey on the same screen.
