Would rather Shuri be the next BP than a recast

  • Nov 21, 2020

Yeah, they are definitely going to recast.

Recast is the route to go man. All respect in the world to Chadwick, but you can’t stop the character of “T’Challa” because of his untimely passing. I don’t mind Shuri becoming Black Panther at all. That can still happen. But there is still a lot of unexplored story options that they can adapt for the big screen that involve T’Challa.

I feel like people who say they shouldn’t recast aren’t comic book fans in the first place. So they don’t know how big of an impact is within the context of the fictional Marvel Universe to just write him after 1 movie. Then speaking to the real life impact of Black Panther/T’Challa had. We been screaming for representation, and got it in the biggest way, any people just want to end it after one movie? I can’t speak to what Chadwick would want but I just don’t see him saying they should end it with him.

I think Chadwick would support a recast but I’m not too sure Coogler and the rest of the cast would be comfortable with it.

i feel like it would be hard to find an actor that would do it too tbh, i feel like alot of people would be scared to do it

The more I think about how fast this is going the more I’m thinking that they’re recasting, and I’m in full support of it.

If they’re filming in July, that probably means they didn’t make many changes to the script. Pre-production has to start soon and there might not be enough time to redo everything right for a July shoot.

While nobody can replicate what Chadwick did as T’Challa, the character existed before him. It would be a disservice to the character to just toss him aside like that.

The character of T’Challa deserves more than one solo film, and there are plenty of actors who can take on the role. It won’t be the same, and it’s going to be weird, but it’s an eventuality that someone else, some day was going to play T’Challa.

What I would love is that the new actor taking on the role gets the blessing from Chadwick’s family.

Story wise, Shuri isn’t ready to be Black Panther yet. I could see her taking more responsibility in BP 2 and start training. Then becoming Black Panther in the third film.

Now that the multiverse is open, we won’t get a recast per se, but a T’Challa from a different Earth (if the Tom Cruise/Iron Man rumour comes to life, maybe have them both from the same Earth).

Ngl I don’t wanna see that just yet though. It would be way more raw with Shuri dealing with her brother gone, for at least a whole film. And then give her a Civil War type sequel were a different T’Challa is introduced (along with other characters)

That boy still needs to work on his screen presence

Seems pretty disrespectful that they’re still rushing out

Marvel was incredibly slow with getting BP2 into production when Chadwick was alive so why rush now? How about giving your cast & crew time to grieve & figure out how they want to move forward. It hasn’t even been a year since Chad passed away

but whatever I guess, this is industrial cinema at its worse.

If they give shuri the mantle instead of recast, then I'm done with Black Panther in general

  • Nov 21, 2020

I can see it working with Shuri as BP. Female Black Panther would kinda be like a Catwoman

Then keep the Storm storyline for LGBT pride

Nah let these niggas have their own interpretation of the universe for once. F*** a recast, it was iconic

Damson Idris would be a great T’challa

  • Nov 21, 2020

I swear everybody that keeps putting out that Shuri becomes Black Panther in the comics doesn't actually read comics.

Moments like that are almost always just made to sell action figures, and then the next writer comes in, undoes said change and sets everything back to the status quo so is to not piss off long time readers.

I keep going back and forth on which outcome is more respectful.

Recasting him because black Panther is such an important and loved part of the biggest franchise OAT. He himself definitely wouldn’t have wanted BP to just die/disappear from the movies.

Or giving the movie to Shuri and all the other cool supporting characters and honouring him that way.

I’ve seen opinions on both sides that make the other side seem completely distasteful.

  • Nov 21, 2020

Either recast him or have Shuri as the new Black Panther.
