MangoThere is no discussion to have about this movie in regard to theme or plot. It is an explicit, transparent movie. If you take its actual plot seriously, you are a baby with keys jangling in your face. If you attempt to grapple with its themes, you are talking back to the characters on screen. Either way, you aren't getting anywhere.
Now I think there is a conversation to be had about this film being aesthetically so unappealing. It is so uncool and ugly and plasticized. The scene in the Shire when they're talking about the heist? The ridiculous Zion 2.0 balcony shot? Morpheus' ugly suits? The Pixar robots? This movie is disgusting to look at. You know what would be original? Maybe continuing the distinct 90s rave s*** that set it apart from other film properties even then!
Couldn't have said it better myself. The movie was an obvious attempt to sabotage The Matrix franchise as to make WB forget about the idea of ever considering another sequel.

I think the only remotely disguised element is its liberal individualism in regards to agency and the stasis of corporate compromise in Io. The film totally shrugs off its revolutionary edge entirely. It even attempts to relieve the liberal guilt of it being a corporate rehash itself by doing the work of self-critique. That speaks to why the aesthetic is so lame now. The future it wanted came to pass.

thats just what filming long sequences in actual bullet time looks like. it's choppyer cause of the digital aspect but i think its much more a choice than an oversite
