Moore completely became this woman you can’t even. Search her name without Moore popping up lol
This film lingers with you
I don’t totally understand all the nuances, and I don’t want to just yet, and I love it
Charles Melton gives a haunting performance
This is great. It has some of the best performances of the year. I love the contrast of the high camp, melodrama that’s being presented on screen vs. how unsettling this is to watch as a viewer. It’s also dripping with atmosphere. The open to interpretation approach works very well too.
I won’t be surprised if this is an awards contender.
There are many aspects of this film that are crushing. Charles Melton’s performance in particular stands out as someone who is broken, and in a way still a child. Some incredible stuff from him. Natalie Portman and Julianne Moore crushed it as well.
One thing that caught me off guard was the music cues. It felt a little over dramatic for a film that would’ve been perfect with some subtlety, but there were one or two moments where it worked.
4/5

I’ve never seen Talk To Her so not sure if there are parallels but apparently that May December poster is a fan made poster inspired by it:

Thank you for the response! I just saw it on a site and was just sharing in case. I will add to the thread once I watch may december
What did I watch
In short, it’s a movie that condemns all of the true crime movies/series Hollywood is in love with

Watched with a true crime friend was wine drunk and there for Portman
Portman is The most overrated actress of all time. Black swan is great though. Todd Haynes. And Julianne Moore is Kobe/ Shaq
not even really sure how to describe this, the whole movie had a 90s soap opera vibe to it while also being darkly funny. Might be my favorite Julianne Moore performance?
her lisp had me crine
The true story this is loosely based on is even more f***ed up. She was his teacher and first met him when she has him in her 2nd grade class. Then began initiating a relationship when she had him again in 6th grade
Went to jail pregnant with his kid (kid was born in prison). Got out, immediately broke the mandated restraining order, and got pregnant again
Don’t think it was intentional but that last scene with Natalie Portman has a whole new layer to it when you remember her role in The Professional
imma check this out
In the middle of this, when the math finally hit me i looked over to my gf and said "ohhh, she's 60 now"
Might of never seen a harder face in my life lmao
🤣🤣 i kept doing math the whole show. I was so confused cause I thought it was 2023. The other girl with them in the house that's their daughter? confused me too
