something needs to be done at this point. young people are dying and a major contribution is music that reinforces it as a way of life

    People gotta raise thier kids

If your son or daughter is out trying to spin the block or gangbang then you’ve failed on several levels

our entertainment should not be making it more difficult. also that’s a bad argument because you don’t know what it’s like to grow up and be collectively mind controlled into limiting beliefs

I agree with the sentiment but ultimately a parent should be the penultimate role model for their kid.

A parent is supposed to be there to put things like music movies and s***into context for kids and allow them to explore that stuff in a safe manner.

I do agree that music influences people tho

Yes, the music is the issue. Not the material conditions that allows drill music to exist. Surely.

Hate when people say drill has no black communities. Like no s*** it has no influence on white suburbans, but it definitelty can put the battery in the back of people already at risk.

Im not american, but Dutch Drill definitely has a negative effect on black communities here. 15 year olds are dying in my city, people walk around with shanks and guns. Not like there wasnt violence before, but it definitely got worse for the yourh. I still fw some drill rappers theres so much talent and i hope everybody makes it.

Every time this convo comes up why do people mix these two like they both can’t be true lol

Socioeconomic factors set all of this in motion decades ago yes but music also plays a role in what young niggas think is cool. Some niggas predetermined to crash out because of upbringing and whatnot but some niggas are just following what they think is cool lol

While I agree, most of these parents are living in these neighborhoods are working 8+ hours a day to keep the lights on and aren’t even in the house most of the time while their kid is home alone or staying with a family member while their out.

Plus, these kids are on the internet 24/7 so you don’t know what they already came across before you could intervene.

usually when people lack resources they find a way to acquire more. this culture is driven by killing for killings sake which makes this unprecedented. also you’re not a sociologist so don’t pretend to be one on hov’s internet

It’s a very alarming trend but outside of people taking the time to raise their kids im not sure what you could do.

Obviously we need a top down restructuring of social safety nets and improving access to higher education for upwards social mobility but those programs will take decades (we should start now)

The most immediate solution is for a parent to take an active position in thier child’s life

I mean 2 of my friends grew up in the south side of Chicago with single parents and are now doing well at a top 5 financial firm and the other working for the patent office

It just takes a little more elbow grease.

I see your point tho, it can’t really be isolated to one issue and im aware im offering an outside opinion as someone with no kids

  • Feb 16, 2022

Honestly tbis really really good not only is he willing to address it he sat with the people who make in a respectable manner so they can state tbeir grievances . Rap music is a huge problem poisoning and dustractung tbe youth , im willing to admit now that im older

Think of the implications of the mayor of NYC doing this. There's been barely any recourse on actually solving crises in poor neighborhoods across the US, but it's much easier to simply do away with the music.

A meeting to "address the dangers of drill music" is some lib s***. It's not based in any material understanding of the consequences of white supremacy and the wealth gap. It's to placate folks.

The amount of effort the government has put forth in trying to stomp out street culture all these decades could've been put into actually helping these neighborhoods instead of silencing them lol.

    This will do nothing.

You do realize most parents of these kids are poor single mothers that work all day to provide for them right

Even doing the best they can still wont be enough to stop a teenage boy from doing what he thinks is cool
