people have always been poor, but never to the point their youth murdered each other for sport. what do you think changed in the last decade or so?
Murders in NYC are way lower now than they were in the 70s and 80s before drill music was even a thought
Think of the implications of the mayor of NYC doing this. There's been barely any recourse on actually solving crises in poor neighborhoods across the US, but it's much easier to simply do away with the music.
A meeting to "address the dangers of drill music" is some lib s***. It's not based in any material understanding of the consequences of white supremacy and the wealth gap. It's to placate folks.
The amount of effort the government has put forth in trying to stomp out street culture all these decades could've been put into actually helping these neighborhoods instead of silencing them lol.
This will do nothing.
I won’t disagree with this. Any modification to the music should come from within the culture not as a result of government action while they ignore most of the root causes of this type of music
Street music returning to the forefront of rap probably
chicago drill culture was heavily invested in. this culture promotes killing as a revenge tactic, keeping score, shooting over fights, etc.
that’s what changed, now it’s everywhere. foh with this “raise your kids” sht

Yea but NYC as a whole was a way worse place
Murders are up in NYC from the past years

Wym by past years? Like the 2000s?

Fundamentally we are in agreement
I don’t disagree with the cause
I just think the solution can’t be to legislate rap (Which wouldn’t be possible) and I dont think any artist is going to give up a sub genre thats extremely profitable right now
The only solution has to come from the kitchen table
Wym by past years? Like the 2000s?
I think he means the last two years, which is the case in most major cities. But I’ll attribute that more to covid and economic anxiety combined with people just being angrier and more stressed in general

I thought so but i might be wrong tho
Cant speak for NYC cus im not american

Yea youre right actually
usually when people lack resources they find a way to acquire more. this culture is driven by killing for killings sake which makes this unprecedented. also you’re not a sociologist so don’t pretend to be one on hov’s internet
You don't need a sociology degree to figure out this isn't going to do s*** lol.
And it's funny that you're saying this, yet you're making this strange connection between drill music and turning poor people into mindless, killing machines.
Not sure what you're trying to say here man.
I think drill has a bigger impact on street violence outside of the US tbh
But i might be a victim of media hype and oldheads complaining about newer generations
Drill music is poison. I try to stay away from it for the most part with some exceptions here and there

Some of em are just too talented smh
Especially in the UK. A lot of those guys could be legit mainstream rappers that dont need to talk about violence every bar, but i guess thats what they live
Violence is rising amongst the black youth and people feel it’s being perpetuated by drill music
How do we solve this
Where is Maino?

I feel like Headie One does a good job at doing that. At least he did on Edna. Haven’t listened to his new s*** much
