This is pretty much just a 5-star review scale but just put into words
and guess what? people will ALWAYS find a way to be mad lol
yes, I would never question sexxy reed’s Intentions because I’ve been given no reason to. That was just an experiment for the sake of making a point. But not knowing the intentions behind the art of David Lynch for example is partly the whole point. That’s all I’m trying to explain to you, that at the end of day this is art And even though it’s up to the Artist to primarily decide what the art is for that doesn’t mean you can’t have your own own interpretation and that It can’t mean something specific to you
For example, Maybe you don’t like the high concept behind a bunch of Kendrick Lamar projects and you just wanna enjoy them as sets of banger songs. That would be you disregarding the “word of God” of Kendrick and just enjoying the music the way you enjoy it
I get what you’re saying, I agree that there can be ambiguity in art. I’m just saying that in general that’s not the case. Especially in music, with most artists it’s pretty clear what they’re setting out to do with an album
but the score is accompanied by several words and sentences to explain how the reviewer got there. it's not the publications fault that people just wanna see the score and immediately lose their heads if it's not something they agree with lol
personally tho i can't use number scores it just doesn't compute for me. but i get why it's done that way
It's done that way because it gets more clicks and more money. Ain't nobody wanna read 12 paragraphs when you got 12 tiktok shorts to watch with instant dopamine release. But I do think the publication also bears responsibility for viewing art as something that can be distilled down to a numbered objective score
Yep and who got more hate lol
Kevin gates turning into a "dangerously h****" punchline is way worse than misogyny + tory lanez fans tryna talk s*** on a victim lol.
The latter is way better, especially as someone that's been a Kevin Gates fan since Satellites. Bro's turned into a parody of himself lol.
try to understand me here. i never said you couldn’t infer intentions, but for all you know John Wick is an allegory for some other s*** known only to the creator. ever seen a David Lynch film? the man intentionally doesn’t explain anything behind his work because he specifically wants to be open to interpretation by anyone, and then that way people come away from things like Twin Peaks, Mulholland Drive and Lost Highway with their own unique experiences. obviously im not gonna disagree with you that the sexy redd album is MOST LIKELY just trying to be some strip club bops, but for all we know that’s not how she intended it, and she’s actually a satirical depiction of a thot rapper and/or some kind of social experiment lmfao. That’s not what I actually think, but for all I know it’s possible. the only one who can objectively say what the intention of a piece of art is is the artist himself, that’s kind of inarguable. There is such thing as death of the author, But that’s when a work comes to popularly Be understood in a way that the author did not intend, like Alan Moore with Watchmen. At the end of the day “the word of God” is still Alan Moore. But guess what? You can still like your interpretation better and that’s perfectly valid also
loving this post whew. especially
the only one who can objectively say what the intention of a piece of art is is the artist himself
that part

The attention span of the reader is not the publication’s fault though. It’s not like they’re completely forgoing the review and just putting out a number. It’s still there, most people just aren’t reading it
The fact that Meg could easily "change" careers ala Cardi and be successful still is a sign that she definitely has a personality that the audience has fallen in love with.
Can't say the same for Kevin "Punch d*** in her" Gates

i don't agree with that at all. how long have numbered rating systems been commonplace? what's the history on that? i'm not finna just say it's for clicks lol doesn't seem realistic

You guys are too stupid to have any convo besides "is this good or bad" I swear
Gates had hits and was a capable rapper and the poptimists ignored him because he was street. Someone like Sexxy Red can rock a MAGA hat and rap street and apparently get a fair shake from the milquetoast crowd. Parent advisory of the sexual nature is empowering. Violence is taboo, but only by black men in rap music

It is partially also the publications fault for thinking that art can be reduced to a score and also trying to absolve themselves of the responsibility of understanding how the average consumer behaves and consumes media

this nigga got scores in his avi he will never truly accept why scoring art is bad
you a fan of provider tho so you cool in my book, fire track

Having. Trouble. With. The. Law. Does. That.
People act like Dababy's only downfall was the rolling loud statements and not the fact he was turning into a walking liability the way he was always getting involved with physical issues (and more than half weren't just "self defence")
Yeah, for the poptimist crowd (who are the tastemakers whether yall like it or not) aren't gonna rock with the nigga who has trouble with the law versus the rapper chick that just says a bunch of dumb s*** lmao

Drake the biggest rapper in the world and bro's only gotten bigger since turning into Corleone the Mob Boss man what are you even talking about.
And also, what ///current/// male popstar or rockstars that are as violent right now?
describing music as “good or bad” is pretty f***ing reductive to begin with. it implies an objective standard to music and art which simply doesn’t exist, those are all literally capitalist standards. In general we need to all move away from from expressing our opinions linguistically as facts. instead of saying “this s*** is actual f***ing f***ing garbage” we go back to “wow this is definitely not for me” or “ I’m definitely not getting this” or simply “ I don’t like this and I don’t think I ever will but I respect the fact that others do”
i am willing to bet that i have listened to a lot more music and a wider variety of music than 99.9% of the niggas on this site. im not even trying to brag when I say that, I only say that because that obsession with music has showed me that one man’s trash is truly another man’s treasure. ive seen niggas s*** on Prince for the dumbest reasons in my opinion and seen mfs praise the Shaggs or Wesley Willis or Jandek or Daniel Johnston, that is music that is by capitalist standards “bad” but to them changed their lives for the better. this is art at the end of the day yall, not sports or some s***

Gunna exonerated. I'm glad the poptimists are astute legal minds who made sure of that before loving him. Def how it works.
King of Pop rip

Gunna never had to serve time. Kevin Gates had to for not just the fan but also due to a gun possession charge.
Turns out repeated stints in jail means you're left out of the public eye. The poptimists that are not on kanye forums are gonna inevitably move on to the next person.
There's a reason Kodak (who has some of the best potential ever) has been seen as "falling off" bro been in too much trouble that folks moved on. Even in SPITE of him still pushing out hits.
the poptimist thing is so funny too.
so these best of lists would be better received if the publications listed 50 albums you never heard of, right? y'all wouldn't b**** about that?
