From the Duke Deuce album thread

    Hot take:

If Slime Language 2 is mid

And there no rolling loud festivals this summer (which looks highly likely)

Memphis has caught up to Atlanta and if Migos, Future, Thug, Baby, and Gunna don’t deliver showstopping great projects in 2022

Memphis will lap Atlanta and take the crown

    No lol

Breh... I’m afraid the reality is upon us

Memphis has the artists and producers to take it there

From Tay Keith to Band Play

Again, there are some other variables that have to fall into place for this to happen but Memphis is right there.

They got alot of talent in their city for sure but I still dont think they're messing with Atlanta. And using Slime Language 2 as a measuring point doesn't make sense imo.

    What else?

Are the only projects from the major artists that are on the cusp of release

Meanwhile Pooh Shiesty, Monybagg Yo, Young Dolph & Key Glock, Duke Deuce, and Big Scarr have a strong hold on southern hip hop...

Don’t wait until it’s clear as day to see it lol... it’s literally happening in real time

The band play production on D&D2 is f***ing insane...

  • no, lol. ATL has way too much staying power right now.

It's only the natural progression. Baton Rouge had a run because of Boosie. Atlanta continued it's run because of jeezy and gucci. Memphis will have a run because of Gotti.

    Ironically..

Memphis may have this run because of Gucci lol

Il sort of not arguing that, I think that’s clear but what Atlanta doesn’t have is a strong class of newcomers as not as Memphis’

So assuming the heavy ATL artists can’t keep the sustained wave going it could get ugly

As much as I love Lil Keed, Gotit...

Duke Deuce, Big 30, Scarr right on their ass

Wheeezy, keys, Taurus officially have their hands full with Bandplay and Tay Keith...

Not disagreeing.. I’m sure some did, the divide comes when Dolph is brought into the equation

A lot of the younger artists look up/sign to him too

And we all know who Dolph was originally affiliated with when he came in the game

    It’s literally happening

Keed’s last album, especially the deluxe is crazy but it didn’t capture everyone’s attention like “LLM” the year before.

I think some of it had to do with pandemic and some had to do with the glaring similarities between his sound and thugs

Gotit should be much more .. I don’t know what his deal is but he’s very talented, not sure what isn’t clicking.

I can’t think of any young act Futute has put over.. ever..

That's more street beef than anything but i get your point. I'd also like to point out that while dolph was around atl artists, Bagg was blowing up.

Premature but I know what you mean. IMO though, the "city" as a meaningful category in rap music is on its last legs. There are Atlanta rappers from LA, Detroit rappers from NY, Bay rappers from Alabama, etc. This used to be the exception but more and more its becoming the rule. Of course sounds have to originate somewhere. But with the ridiculous # of people in hip hop today and the internet, sounds leave their hometown before they've even had a chance to get established. There will never be another "great hip hop city" like NY, LA, ATL. (Of their scale and undisputed-ness. Don't quote me just naming some other city that has good music)
