It's depressing af to know that MGS4 is forever console locked on the PS3
Yeah you can play it on a PS3 Emulator but it's not 100% optimized unless you have a f***ing super computer
the online for that was a massive part of my childhood

Yeah MGO2 (Metal Gear Online 2) was GOATED af when I played MGS4
MGO3 didn't hit the same for me when I bought MGS5, I stopped playing because the gameplay was unbalanced af and not fun
1- best all around game, checks every box
2 - best political narrative & themes
3 - Most entertaining (literally made like a blockbuster movie)
4 - The fan service masterclass
5 - Best gameplay
Never got a chance to play one it’s the only mainline I haven’t played. Hope the collection edition is solid

NightRaid
played a bunch on the Japanese servers but I would switch back and forth

I put some stupid hours into both of them but yea mgo3 wasn't all that. still had a blast with the laggy mess tho

probably the best of the few narrative driven games of its time fr and it ends perfect

MGS1 is wonderful. It's the most aged of the bunch imo, but for its time, it was insane. But comparing it and MGS2 also displays how giant of a gap there was between PS1 and PS2.
First time I played it, both my parents actually got caught up in the story for about 2 hours. Was kinda crazy to see them watching me play so intently.

MGS1 is incredible, still to this day. Way ahead of its time in terms of scope, design, themes, gameplay, everything. The only thing that really sticks out these days is some of the boss fights (they haven’t aged well).
you guys ever play metal gear survive
? That’s not a real game
Can I play MGS V without playing all if these?
You can, it just won't make a lot of sense. But MGSV also has the least story of any of the games.
Once you get past the first 2 hours of it, it's basically just a sandbox where you can do whatever you want.

If I read up on the games before this one would it suffice? Which games do I need to know before MGS V?
Can I play MGS V without playing all if these?
Would atleast play Ground Zeroes, but I guess that isn't totally necessary if you read up on the games

All of them in release order is the ideal way to do it tbh
But 3 -> Peace Walker -> Ground Zeroes -> V all go in sequence chronologically

Honestly, for MGSV all you really need to know is that a guy named Big Boss/Snake was put in a coma after an attack by a dude called Skull Face and he has two friends named Kaz and Ocelot.
Nothing else is really necessary for it.
But if you were gonna start somewhere, I would recommend MGS1 or 3. But V can be played pretty easily on its own, you just won't get a lot of the references made.
MGS1-4 are all HEAVILY story based and MGSV is heavily gameplay based basically because there was very little else to explore in canon (and Kojima had limitations due to Konami being stupid).

I wish to understand why Japanese writers have such complicated ways of telling stories ie Final Fantasy
I can never get the gist of what it’s all about but it’s fascinating
