I think i'll be the only one itt and on most spaces that really enjoys sol valley for what it is. I understand and even agree with the common criticisms, but as someone who gets emotional riding argo in the empty map of shadow of the colossus, or very cinematically and slowly walks sam porter bridges through an empty valley, i don't find empty, negative spaces necessarily bad. It all depends on execution, and i don't mind sol valley at all in that regard.
The music is faint and eerie, it gives me chills when It comes on as i leave one of the main areas. Riding viola is fun and responsive, and boosting is fun. The landscapes are cool, seeing the main areas in the distance with their unique layouts and Skyboxes builds anticipation and helps them be unique. The skybox in the desert itself is so striking and works as a great contrast to the sandy dunes that surround you for miles and miles. It generally helps sell the concept of scale and this long decayed and lone planet better than any prior attempts, either by retro or any team working on the 2d games.
And as much as people like to say it looks bad, it looks like a cool desert. Certainly not Pokémon level, it quite matches the desert in nier automata personally. There arent many ways to make a huge empty desert look more appealing than this.
The main problem is the emptiness, not the desert itself. But then again, interestingly enough this is like the one thing im not as harsh on as others, which i did NOT expect. I agree with everything its been said, and yet the atmosphere its trying to sell resonates with me so its not a big deal.
Only thing i'll comment on before i finish the game, i just wanted to write this down cause i found my thoughts on this particular aspect fascinating to explore
bought this for myself the other day then caught s*** when I got home from the gf cause she had already got it for me for Christmas
now I gotta wait
Man if you don't just start playin ya game lol
been playing remastered and man.. it’s really such a perfect transition game from 2D to 3D.

it’s so worth it bro I promise. the atmosphere and soundtrack is out of this world.
lowkey just been playing this game in increments i kinda dont wanna just binge this lol
wish this game had a photo mode theres some stunning shots in here
Bought this 3 days ago, for the record, I was never a huge Metroid fan, but I loved Prime 1 back on my GC and the remake on the OG Switch. Never really played the others.
I think this captures the feeling of MP well, but the linearity and the NPCs do detract from the ultimate score.
I’d give it a 7.5/10 so far, maybe 8/10. I love the art style, music and atmosphere a lot tho.
This game is the greatest mix of greatness and complete disappointment at the same time in my life its geniunely hard for me to have a rational opinion on it rn
made the mistake of going on twitter and saw what samus face looks like in the 100% ending
not a major spoiler or anything but still

im stuck between thinking the game is pretty solid when it sticks to the core gameplay but then the bike stuff just sucks all the energy out
feel like prime 1 just off my replay did the whole interconnecting sectors thing better without having to tack on a vehicle section (that you have to grind for)

My main problem with this game and my biggest disappointment is really the level design of the single areas. Feels like im going through the motions, its so linear. Im not totally against linearity, but here sometimes you go corridor to corridor with hardly any hazard or obstacle in your way, you just keep walking and walking, sometimes with no enemy in sight aside from some innocuous bugs. Other metroids have done linearity a lot better. Its sad because these areas are so immersive, full of lore, with great art and sound direction, but you can never fully appreciate them because of that level design.
Just that would've made this game a lot better to me, thats what i look for in a Metroid game the most.
Metroid prime has 4 linear areas (phazon mines, magmoor, phendrana space pirate research lab, space pirates wrecked ship, but they have a lot going on (platforming, morph ball sections, gimmicks like being in pitch black darkness and underwater, the environmental hazard of the phazon, lava, i could go on. And these all connect to at least 2 areas so there still is that feeling of being lost even though you probably wont

im not too far in the game but yeah i would agree with this
ice belt so far is the closest the game has gotten to feeling like the older games in level design but even it has some missteps like the puzzles being insanely easy lol
im hoping the game gets better on that front

Got ragebait YouTubers posting Samus’ face on their MP4 hate videos
I’m still not done with the game, and I’m enjoying it still. I will admit it lacks that spark from previous Prime games unfortunately.
They may have pandered to casuals too much with how straightforward it is. The linear level design, the vast empty overworld, the tacked-on motorcycle and the NPCs lowkey give it that "licensed game" feeling like as if it were based on some Hollywood movie.. (On a positive note, the NPCs aren’t as insufferable as the critics made it out to be.)
The whole psychic gimmick/set of mechanics does nothing to me; Phazon in the older games was more interesting even though it seemed underutilized.
All in all, as sad as it is to say this, I hope this is the end of the Prime subseries and 3D Metroid heads in a brand-new direction.
WTF didnt expect it to end like this. Well scratch all my reboot talk, looks like we getting prime 5 after all
Damn i never would've thought there would've been such a tease of a direct sequel im honestly so pumped for this. If they can flesh out all the missteps in this game into fully realized ideas i think the next one could be the best. The basis this game provides is very strong. I hope they listen to all the criticism and player feedback
lowkey tryna go 100% in my first playthrough
never really did this in any other metroid but i feel compelled to do so for some reason
