Wasn't that song made when he had his skin bleached? lol. I wonder how much of his life they will adapt? I'm guessing they'll stop before the more controversial parts of his life...

Not to hate either. I like Fuqua’s work. Just find it weird critics really don’t like him lol

incredibly safe director for hire which would be fine if there was anything interesting about the way he directs a film.

No and I don’t know where you read that or you just choosing to bullshit

With his literal family member playing him I highly doubt the writers will dig too deep into the allegations

Even if it’s the truth, you should understand that no one is going to put that much stock in something that’s sanctioned/closely connected to his family, it’s an obvious conflict of interest lol. It’s always going to be taken with a grain of salt and that’s not just for MJ, it’s the family of any accused person.

I’m sure it will be addressed. Because it’s looking like the function of the film will be to “rebrand” and try to shake off some of the stigma so they can make the brand more viable going forward. A lot of the studying is probably on the best approach to just make the public feel okay about it all, they probably have experts figuring out the best way to tackle it that ends with money

I can't wait for them to portray the fact that Michael was pressured by his label and Sony to settle out of court because it would have conflicted with the Bad Tour, which was projected to generate billions.

Michael is a much better name

It should make strides to humanise MJ - everyone already knows the greatest entertainer of all time

    Terrible idea

    Show the greatest entertainer

MJ is humanized enough. More than enough. His humanity and legacy as a person already completely overshadows his work. But I’m probably in the minority being more interested in his work than his life

This should be an effort to remind us of how great he was as an entertainer and get people to move on from the personal s***. We don’t need MORE of a personal look at MJ I’ve seen enough lol

    You must be f***ing trolling

There’s been nothing in regard to who MJ actually was. Tabloid sensation and false allegations is who MJ was as a person to most as a result

It couldn’t be further from the truth that MJ has been humanised lol

I’m aware. Idiots will complain regardless.

The MJ musical was set before any allegations took place and critics wanted it to be a song and dance about kids being abused

I’m really not about to turn this into an allegation thread - and won’t reply to any trolls who try it on past this post

    But if you want to understand the settlement - in short it was because mjs human right to a fair trial was violated;

And you’re confident that a biopic (a work of fiction portraying something based on reality) will be able to do that sufficiently?

You can argue that who the tabloids portrayed him as wasn’t who he truly was, but it doesn’t change the fact that his persona, personal life, idiosyncrasies, struggles, and antics overshadowed his music for years.

And what we see in an estate sanctioned biopic won’t be truly him either, it will be another perspective of him, a more flattering one of course. We will never know the man, and the morality of him really isn’t even worth arguing over at this point. A biopic addressing the s*** isn’t going to shut it down and have the final word on history. It’s just going to keep the conversation going, and personally I find the MJ artist a lot more interesting than MJ the person

Wasn’t that video of him renting the supermarket to be a regular person supposed to humanize him or something? I feel like I’ve seen him speak enough to have him pretty “humanized” in my head

Also in before they play up his idiosyncrasies heavily and actually make him come off even more weird than he seemed, there’s so many tropes in the biopic genre that I don’t see then sidestepping them all and delivering a history correcting, public opinion shattering document of a film lol. You must have an insane amount of confidence in all the people involved in this

I feel like that’s a strawman or something

Like yeah critics can be stupid and go too far

But that doesn’t make it idiotic that people naturally wouldnt trust the family of an accused person in almost any situation, including legal ones but especially one where they stand to profit for generations. No one but you would take their word as gospel or the final word on the matter, they have too much of a reason to want him to be cleared in public opinion, so they can sell him more

Of course they can’t. There is no “winning” in this, the man was complicated and now he’s gone. There’s no win they can take and no film they can make that would make it all better and fix his legacy. It’s just not really how this works.

You’re living in a fantasy world if you think this should be some kind of cut and dry “win” for them and everyone has to believe whatever their spin is on his legacy and give them money

We will never know Michael and a film by his family will not get us closer, in fact I predict it will just muddy the waters even more, sorry

'The people involved have already said they studied for a few years before taking this on.

that's not what i asked a simple yes or no would suffice don't need all that extra sauce 'It’s gonna be the truth' yh well if they gloss over the allegations/his relationships with children it will not be the full truth like in 'elvis' where they ignore his questionable actins with minors n getting married to a 14 year old
