With his literal family member playing him I highly doubt the writers will dig too deep into the allegations

facts need an unbiased account with the family not involved tbh

I can't wait for them to portray the fact that Michael was pressured by his label and Sony to settle out of court because it would have conflicted with the Bad Tour, which was projected to generate billions.

    this true

I'm oddly looking forward to this movie. MJ one of my all time faves. Hopefully Jafar kills it to beat the nepotism allegations lol

That single he dropped a couple years ago was so fire. Was excited for the album but it never dropped

Of course they can’t. There is no “winning” in this, the man was complicated and now he’s gone. There’s no win they can take and no film they can make that would make it all better and fix his legacy. It’s just not really how this works.

You’re living in a fantasy world if you think this should be some kind of cut and dry “win” for them and everyone has to believe whatever their spin is on his legacy and give them money

We will never know Michael and a film by his family will not get us closer, in fact I predict it will just muddy the waters even more, sorry

The idea people could walk away from this and understand MJ more is not far fetched. That's a win. Regardless of whatever narrative you want to spin.

You can continue the negative bullshit just like you tried for Thriller 40 (which wound up being the biggest show on Paramount+) but it's a big chance and a major positive MJ moment, something we've not had too many of in the last few years.

It could go some ways to helping perception - Queen's film boosted their popularity immensely.

I've not read the script. Every indicator we have tells us that it will be covered.

And why's that? A true, factual portrayal of what actually happened would do wonders for MJ.

I have good faith it will be. The people involved know what's good - they've also said several times it's not a 'whitewash'.

MJ was human and had flaws. It's just because those flaws were exaggerated/falsified by the media for so long, if it does continue those pathetic tropes, people will dismiss it because 'the family are involved'.

Fair enough. I guess in the grand scheme, I’m not denying it could be a success in that regard. But on a personal level, I could not be less interested in his personal life. I would rather remember him as an artist and focus on the stuff we can agree on, rather than the stuff we will never know. And I personally think the focus on the person does a disservice to the art

MJ was so wildly talented you could easily do 2+ films and still not cover it all.

    I don't envy them lol

That would be so hard to portray though. Michael Jackson is like a national treasure. Nobody really wants to acknowledge the skeletons in his closet. They made a movie with Elvis' darker side so maybe one day we'll get something like that for Michael but it won't be anytime soon

They've been putting skeletons in MJs closet for 30+ years and people lap it up like it's gospel. Where do you come up with this s***?

That’s the thing too. It’s safe to assume that there will be artistic triumphs that aren’t covered in the film because they spend time on personal s*** that we don’t even know is true

What on earth does “nobody wants to acknowledge the skeletons in MJs closet” mean

People have been putting skeletons in there for 30 years - aka lying about MJ in the worst ways possible and people lap it up like it’s stone cold fact

You just can’t cover it all and I think that’s why a lot of fans are worried

Do they skip over certain albums? Jacksons era? Crazy to even think about condensing it into 2~ hrs

I mean in a big budget film. Even if you believe he's innocent, how do you portray all his strange behavior around children on screen (not the allegations but the behavior that Michael himself admitted to) without ruffling some feathers? Any attempt at a portrayal would make him look like a total creep. Of course Michael's estate wouldn't want any of that because it would f*** with the money

Jackson’s era will be like 15-20 minutes id imagine, they’re going to condense that a lot

And id assume any albums after Bad will barely be mentioned tbh unless it’s in passing, because in the third act I see the drama taking over and music taking the back seat. Biopics are predictable like that.

    No, it wouldn’t

Sensationalised versions would but if it was told properly as it actually happened it would be fine

You’re making some good points here. This is why I don’t even want a biopic of this dude to begin with. Whatever this man was up to I don’t wanna see it. But it also can’t be ignored or cleaned up and glossed over.

It’s damn near impossible to portray him properly and I don’t have confidence in the modern film industry or the family of the individual to execute such a complicated task.
