i heard the sequel is called JACKSON

I heard someone on YouTube suggest that it "better be" called Jackson. Is that the comment you saw lmao or a real source

  • Either way I'm excited to see it cuz it's been decades since the Jacksons American dream movie which I loved. And even that which came out before the 2nd half of Michaels life is like 3 or 4 hours so yeah a Michael biopic definitely needs to have a very lengthy runtime or be split into multiple films

It's so crazy this new era how fast these movies come out now. I know this obviously isn't out yet but just them talking about it

I'm from the era of movies staying in the theaters for like a year then taking another year to come out on video lol

  • Already figured this wasnt going be some prestige character study into MJ the artist and person. Was just expecting at least a solid enjoyable blockbuster, but looks like it might not even be that

From a business perspective, it wouldn’t make sense to not make a music biopic that caters to the fans of the artists that’s who you’re expecting to go watch the movie

That’s why that’s all these will ever be. Especially for big artists. Don’t expect the Britney Spears biopic to be any different

I mean honestly super real, tho I got serious doubts about this being good

I agree. But its the same thing with the Mario movie. It's fine when ppl enjoy a movie that is just meant to be an enjoyable popcorn flick for the fans who want their nostalgia appealed to.

But it looks a bit silly when those same ppl clearly get outraged and shocked when the movie gets bad reviews, and start creating conspiracies that paint the critics as villains who didnt get it lol.

  • KingOfPop

Of course there is. Like I said. They've spent 30 years plus making a fortune painting a picture. This is a massive stab in the chest for all of them, it was a waste of time and they can't control the narrative. No way they give it a fair shot.

But with Mario movie you get more of a creative liberty of at least attempting to have a plot of your own creation. You can please the fans and have a coherent plot.

When it’s based on an actual person you’re limited to the events of their life and who else is the movie being made for besides the fans? If there was ever an artist to take a risk of trying something different it’d be MJ cause he’s big enough to draw interest no matter what but you’d be leaving money on the table vs making it a highlight reel for fans to relive their favorite moments

  • That's the second negative tweet that you have posted in here. Why don't you Beat It, Billie Jean?

    Before this thread gets Dangerous...

yeah but there have been big/successful biopics in the past that haven’t been afraid to show the controversial sides of iconic artists. the Ray Charles biopic showing his heroin use/infidelity. James Brown’s biopic showing him beating his wife etc

There are plenty of Biopics that were able to do something unique and creative with someone's life.

    • in 2024 we got Better Man, which was entirely told with Robbie Williams being portrayed as an animated monkey. That was critically acclaimed.

    • Same year we got Piece By Piece, which was a Pharrell Biopic told with Legos, and allowed for more creativity.

    • In 2022 we got the Weird Al biopic which simultaneously worked as a biopic on him, and a satire for biopics in general. Which is sorta of brand for his image.

Not saying an MJ movie has to imitate these. But there are absolutely Biopics out there for musicians that found artsy, different, and creative ways to tell the story of a real person.
Catering to fans is fine. But you're less likely to get critical acclaim when there are other movies in the same genre doing more innovative things

and again. ignoring it being a little morally wrong to make a film not addressing the controversies, from a narrative stand point it would have made it a movie that has more to say than just being a puff piece

D*** use is fine in biopics tbh I’d say it’s a common trope nowadays

As for James Brown, how successful did that end up being? That’s what I’m saying you’d leave money on the table to alienate part of the fan base you’re marketing to. I’m saying from a business perspective it makes sense to cater to them not that it doesn’t happen

Same reason Elvis only did the d*** stuff. D*** addiction you can make your character sympathetic still

Idk I feel like touching on the controversies would drive even more people to see it if anything just to see how how it’s portrayed and it’s not like it’s some lowkey secret
