Idk I feel like touching on the controversies would drive even more people to see it if anything just to see how how it’s portrayed and it’s not like it’s some lowkey secret
You bring up those controversies in the movie and all of a sudden no one’s bringing their kid to go watch it. There goes the family audience. Plus MJ fan base are a dedicated bunch wouldn’t be surprised if some boycotted. You lose the free marketing you get from super fans going dressed as MJ and doing the dances outside the theater
As I mentioned earlier, MJ is a big enough artist to try and take that risk but from a business standpoint what’s the point when you can make more money by appealing to the fans you’re banking on being the main target audience?
You guys are telling me what would be more creatively interesting and I don’t disagree but business wise it just makes more sense to make these music biopics a highlight reel for the fans

this movie shows Joe being abusive to his children and his hair catching on fire, I don’t think that’s catering to a family audience either. genuinely the main reason it’s not being included is because his family doesn’t want it in there. they literally spent 15 million in reshoots to completely remove footage they already had of it

Families aren’t keeping their kids at home because of some spankings and fire. MJ is the victim of child abuse, that’s sympathy you can draw from the audience. Pedophilia accusations are a different story plus it’d hurt international market they don’t play with that s***
I’m aware of the reshoots. No doubt the family didn’t want it but I’m sure studio heads also weren’t keen on the risk of going there either. Why do you think they hired a director like Antoine who they can tell to shoot it then if they don’t like it scrap it with no pushback from him
Well, another on YouTube said it's potentially a crowd pleaser but mostly montages, like the Thriller era is apparently condensed into a montage. Dude argued that maybe the film would've breathed a little if the whole movie was leading up to a specific moment in history like Thriller and ngl that sounds better
oh brother that sounds so egregiously bad lol. fuqua truly washed
damn, the initial RT score this morning was as heartbreaking as Rise of Skywalker’s initial score
Fuqua’s probably getting replaced if there’s a sequel tho
Not if it makes money. Studio heads not losing sleep over RT score
Peepin this today maybe
Change it to definitely with t mobile Tuesday 5$ any ticket

Brother t mobile doesn’t exist in Australia I wish it did tho
I find most music biopics to be boring but I watch them to get a new appreciation for the artists music, learn about their come up, or sometimes to get introduced to their music. Don’t really expect much else from them
I liked Walk The Line because it kinda played like a romance movie. Kneecap was cool cause it was more about how Irish culture is dying and the band’s efforts to keep it alive

Sometimes you get some genuinely good filmmaking like Better Man or Tick Tick Boom
But I’m also a fan of musicals so I appreciate big choreographed music numbers

You don't know what you're talking about. They legally couldn't mention the 1993 allegation, hence the reshoots. The Estate had to come out of pocket 100% to finance it. They had went pretty deep into the Chandlers and the overall situation.
Why you keep posting this
Because for only 5$ you can see Michael in any format with t mobile
Brother t mobile doesn’t exist in Australia I wish it did tho
Australia sounds nice
Feel like people are just using the "controversy" stuff as a placeholder for wanting more conflict in the film. The reviews by big names that don't mention it at all also seemingly indicate a lack of complexity to MJ's depiction. If that ends up being the case, i can understand it a bit.
Michael's life was full of complexity and tragedy (recommend his 1988 autobiography). He was worked since he was 5, abused, exposed to adult clubs, and struggled severely with his confidence and image as a young man. Then there's the unprecedented level of fame.
We've seen most of these moments like Joe beating the kids, Pepsi incident, etc... in Jacksons miniseries already. 90's would have been new, difficult territory this clearly wanted to dodge. Will def watch first and hope these descriptions are wrong though

Excellent country, but it doesn’t dream big like America. I’ve always looked up to you guys

How did it clearly want to dodge it when the original film they wanted to make started with it?
People are confusing the film the team wanted to make before the f***ing moronic Estate realised what had been previously agreed
