Saw it for the third time today. First time with my girlfriend, and MJ neutral who doesn't know much about him (including not knowing about the Pepsi burn).
Her main takeaway was that it was good, but a lot sadder than she expected. Will open up eyes to the hurt MJ went through which is why I think it's an overall positive despite having very clear flaws.
Michael will return
crying at this actually happening
I didn’t love this, but when it hits, it HITS. That in particular happened during the performance scenes and basically from Thriller to the end. Jada at Jackson is damn incredible in this, and Coleman Domingo does some great work too. It’s competently shot and edited, and it looked good for the majority of the time. Something just felt off half the time.
I think this is a very surface level look at Michael with small pockets of depth spread throughout. I wanted more, and maybe trying to cram 25 years of one of the greatest performer’s life didn’t work out as well as I wanted it to. Reshoot controversy aside, I feel like there wasn’t a ton of room for certain things to breathe. I feel like I could watch a whole movie on the creation of Thriller alone. I do understand the story here is Michael trying to break from Joe’s control, and that is done decently. As a result of trying to do so much, there’s a lot of telling and not showing.
I feel like I’m being picky but I did have a really good time watching this, hell I may even see it again. At the same time, even ending in ‘88 I feel that they missed a lot.
3/5 overall.
Not bad, even good at times, evenly just solid. I think I might’ve preferred a multi season show honestly, and maybe that’s because I want to see everything.
Why was he invited to the premiere
He thinks he’s him
Needs to be stomped tf out

This is where I'm at with it. It's a good film. Could've been better and not the best ever but still a damn good time.
So many people in the theatre were dressed up as well. Felt like one big party with the way everyone was dancing.
I don’t think I’ve ever been to a movie that had people standing up and dancing for like 30+ minutes.
That sounds so fun
I wonder if people at my theatre tomorrow will be dressing up and dancing as well.

Agree with this
"The people have spoken"
Wow, the best selling album of all time and now the best selling movie of all time! Michael continues to break records!
I gotta say. I really enjoyed this. The pacing was definitely a bit rushed but I get it. Would have loved to have spent a little more time in the J5 era for this one and got a little more BTS detail into Mikes creative process but obviously we have so many other avenues for that and it was clear the intent here was to focus on Michael the person and how that struggle to find himself and his path bled into him becoming the artist he became. Jafar absolutely KILLED it! I was not happy when he was casted and to be honest, I was never confident that anyone could realistically portray MJ but I can’t imagine anyone else doing it now but him

It's great. The tears are great too.
I’m at the theater and they are playing his music out loud in the theater lobby
I’m actually not watching this movie today, but it’s wild to see the hype for this. Never seen a theater bump music in the lobby before
Mike got motion even posthumously
I will say I had no idea about that MTV thing. You mean to tell me that MTV through the 70s and 80s was not playing black artists?! What the hell were people watching on MTV lmao
Hair metal lol

How did you not know about this? Lmao
Just got out.
Don’t have many nice things to say. Maybe I’ll elaborate further when KOP goes to sleep.

I forgot tbh. I do remember that David Bowie interview tho. Didn’t realize MJ was one of the first black artists to change things
