Just came out of the theater. Its a f***ing travesty they gave it a 1/10, when clearly the movie is not a super stinker. The movie is not perfect by all means, and I think that as many have said the plot feels loosely stitched together from going to one “big” moment to another. If youre going as a casual, you gon be entertained, Jafaar killed it in every aspect and its f***ing uncanny how every mannerism, detail and voice makes you think youre watching Michael. If youre expecting to see Opprnheimer level of cinema and plot youre not gonna find this here the music and the setpieces carry the movie. The valid criticisms that critics have given to plot and pacing are true, but making a critique about the controversies and SA cases is dumb, like you barely even touched BAD

    Opprnheimer And plot? lol

  • @Bubbles You deserved so much better.

I feel like its gonna be a s***show between the director and the state. Sequel will touch on the more controversial part of Jacksons life and I wanna see how the state will handle that without damaging the creative and artistic direction of that director

They'll simply refuse to approve anything that blemishes him on screen

This felt like a speed run man why does the movie feel like its in a hurry to get to the next event yet there's no real buildup and there's no climax it ends right at the height of his career what exactly did they expect the viewer to feel walking out of this

  • If you're gonna split this s*** into half the least you could've done was take your time

It's up there. Especially outside of child actors. Julie Andrews as Mary Poppins is tough to beat though.

Even with inflation Michael cost like 3x what Mary Poppins did if we're solely talking about the size of the production

Julie Andrews did The Sound of Music immediately after. Back to back classics.

Michael will probably not go down like either

I thought the original question was just about the scale/cost of the production

Do you think Michael is going to have a larger footprint than Mary Poppins?

It's actually misleading to measure box office by money instead of ticket count anyway. There were no premium screens delivering the bulk of profit. That money represents a larger viewership in all probability.

it was really, a film this expensive to depend on a debut actor in the lead role

No I don't, and I'm really not disagreeing with you. I think the disconnect here is over the interpretation of the original question

I was pretty charitable. And again, if you count kids it's probably Harry Potter

I think this movie didnt talk about Michael enough. We get to know his personality, but not a lot about his story. I think this first movie should've focused on his early life until off the wall. For example i think his relationship with his father and his childhood didnt get nearly enough focus. My friend who went with me who had 0 knowledge about michael's life just assumed his dad was bad because of the movie repeating it, not because of anything that actually transpired between them, if that makes sense.
But jafaar did very good, and i still wonder how they nailed michael's voice so well, and of course the music video and concert recreations were very cool

I know Jaafar did a good job with the Thriller video, but something just felt off about it.

I don’t know if it’s the way it was shot or the lighting, but something didn’t quite look right.

Maybe I’m too much of a fan. I’ve seen the thriller video for the last 30+ years and know every detail lol.
