I cannot lie, reading some of these responses makes me fearful for some Americans growing up because mate.

You don’t have the capacity to understand that whilst it was completely wrong that it happened & in very poor taste, Tourette’s is INVOLUNTARY & cannot be helped.

Blame the BBC & BAFTAs for keeping than in the edit when they edited out Akinola Davies saying Free Palestine instead of aiming your pain at a guy that probably is even more mortified that it happened.

lowkey i think the difference is in the UK we had that one season of big brother back in 06 where most of us were introduced to tourettes

i can't think of anything similar in US culture except the south park episiode that many Americans seemingly couldn't parse as satire

People have the capacity for all of this

But people of a similar skin tone also saw the way delroy and mbj faces dropped on that stage and that too is a valid emotion for some of us to have as well

1000% understand & agree BUT to use that as a platform to say stuff like he shouldn’t be there & f*** his condition is completely wrong.

Yes it affected some actors we care about and fellow black people they we think deserve love but the things that have been said are insane . Truth be told some of the s*** some black people said on Twitter will affect their careers or public views . S*** especially what non black grace Randolph was saying even her fans told her to reel it in

Many very ignorant things were said

This is facts & we had shows in places like Channel 4 which did provide insight into how people with this condition live & how it can affect their lives

I think folks that are accusing people that are saying “he can be there but let there be accommodations for his conditions” of being eugenist are being critically and drastically unfair dawg

If people want to get more insight, read or go & check out the movie based on his life, I Swear, & see if you still hold some of the views we see in here.

Disappointed to see some cannot do the education before speaking on matters they are unaware about, such as a neurological condition like Tourette’s.

Some get offended when you say this even if you say this genuinely from the heart . Some Americans take “ learn more about this topic as offense “ because the main thing they are thinking about is the word that triggered a visceral emotion in them

For me, the blame lays solely at the feet of the BBC & BAFTAs, they had the opportunity to edit it out, stopping the s*** show we’re currently seeing

I’m not, black British but 100% get you, sad to see the lack of education

The lack of education on many topics in America is the reason we are so easily controlled and manipulated

Which is completely understandable to have that reaction initially but even when presented with new information, some still do not care which is disappointing but hey, it is what it is

Having him apologize to each and every black person he interacted with or offended would be difficult - just a breakdown any form letter video interview would be enough i think its worse him not apologising publicly than not (if he's actually sorry)

He would be kissing the feet of the ADL if his ticks were antisemitic, but black people gotta take it on the chin

The primary place Americans have seen Tourette’s who don’t watch documentaries or try to learn about people with disabilities is comedies . Tourette’s has been more of a punchline and broadcast to them as if it isn’t a real condition or they are saying “ inner thought s” like a truth serum more than what the actual condition is . It’s why you have people in this thread trying to say “ he is racist “ or people online saying “ he sure knew to call the black people slurs “

    Doesn’t work like that

Well I know this now someone already explained in better detail how this outburst would manifest, doesn’t change the fact that people were apparently being terrorized all night by this

BBC & BAFTA are the only ones to blame. Someone itt said they want to break the jaw of the disabled guy without conscious control for involuntarily saying it. What the hell are we doing?

It aint just Americans that do that (just have a conversation with Africans/Caribbeans that hate African-Americans) but I do concede surviving here is an exhausting ordeal.
