Well i’d imagine that’s a pretty logical assumption after hearing the word thrown out by a white man

I don't expect a disabled person to apologize every time they're disabled. I can empathize with the hurt MBJ and Delroy felt, as I've intentionally been called slurs, but I can also empathize with John suffering from an embarassing disability that I don't think he should constantly have to apologize for, as he's just trying to exist.

If not expecting an apology makes me anti-black, than expecting an apology is ablesist I guess?

You’re right that he shouldn’t have to apologize every time, especially to those aware of his condition

To actors who weren’t told the extent of his condition and were onstage being watched all around the world? Yeah no an apology is definitely warranted

sorry you had to go through that, getting called racial slurs is a sickening feeling.

i’ve been called the same with “sand” in front of it a few times. i was very confused the first time because i wasn’t even aware that was a thing people said. and when i looked it up, i was even more surprised because it seemed to be a really outdated term. but i guess post-9/11 amerikkka brought it back.

Yeah s*** is f***ed up bro, I watch big brother and they had this dude on there name "Kaysar" and I remember this girl had called him that slur and rightfully he got mad and then in the edited show they removed her calling him that slur and only showed him getting mad as a way to paint him as the "bad guy" smh

yea, have a private event with family and friends and those involved with the film

again, why are we prioritizing the feelings of one man instead of the two men presenting and all the black people in the audience

A private room for him to still be in attendance would’ve been the best option

Instead their effort for inclusiveness backfired majorly

Is it bad that I’m wondering to myself why he didn’t use other slurs, or shout them at non-Black people? Still learning about Tourettes but I asked Claude about this to get a bias-free answer:

“It’s a pretty natural thing to wonder, and it’s actually a question that gets at something real about how Tourette’s and coprolalia work. The short answer is that tics, while involuntary, aren’t entirely random. Research suggests they’re often shaped by what a person’s brain has flagged as the most forbidden or taboo thing to say in a given context. So in a way, the brain almost “homes in” on what would be most socially catastrophic to blurt out — which is part of why coprolalia so often involves slurs or sexual language rather than just random words. There’s also a contextual trigger component. Davidson himself acknowledged that stress, crowds, and heightened emotion amplify his tics. When Jordan and Lindo — two prominent Black men — walked on stage, his brain may have latched onto the most charged word associated with that moment. It’s not that he harbors racist beliefs that are “leaking out” — it’s more like his brain found the most explosive possible word for that specific stimulus.”

Anyone else know a better response to it than this?

He doesn't have to apologize for having tourettes but its 100% human nature to apologize for unintentionally hurting someone regardless of the reason.

Ya'll make so many excuses for people its crazy, hes a very functioning human being who is very capable of apologizing to someone for the words said.

  • i dont think forced separation under the guise of inclusion is the answer either tbh, baftas could've been more accommodating to his needs without removing him from the crowd completely

and before anyone asks, no i dont know what those needs would be exactly, i dont understand much about tourettes beyond the basics

Not about expecting an apology so much as acknowledging this has escalated and showing care for how he affected others even if involuntarily.
