Lazy beat switches in both
Beat switches in this song are lazy.
Sicko mode beat switch isnt
When Mos Def’s “Brooklyn” beat switches to “Who Shot Ya” at the end, it works so well because you’ve been listening to a whole song about Brooklyn and then it feels like you’re dropped right into a cypher there
To say this is just a case of “completely different songs pasted together”, wow man.
Like it’s so clear that Mos put it together intentionally and built the song like that, this isn’t a couple different records he had that he threw together he wrote it to be like this
but while we in here, here's the OG version of this song with the 1st beat.
'98 Yasiin Bey was hip hop Pablo Sanchez (IYKYK)
Nigga how is this a bait thread? It’s an appreciation thread I’m saying mos def was ahead of his time

"mid def" was just a typo?
if so, I'll take it back.
The Ecstatic is my favorite rap record ever. Don’t really keep Mos in my music tho- he has such a small catalogue that I’ve played to death over the last decade

He didn't do himself any favors bro was as anti-industry as it can get.
Plus in addition bro is one of the few rappers that are actually great actors as well so he took some time off for that career too.
But between Black on Both Sides, The New Danger (Truly ahead of its time, and honestly sucks we couldnt get his full rock Black Jack Johnson band project all the way out due to the label because some of the best moments of that album was that), and the Ecstatic you could tell bro really could've been one of the f***ing greats if he gave a f*** about the industry lol.

I said TYPO underneath that comment 😭
even with him phoning it in on black star 2 and the negus release, that's one of the few rappers I do stan over.
3 beats in one song
