explain this to me like i'm 5 years old pls i'm tryna be successful @Brave
the world that exist in your head needs to be authentically expressed through your art or content
i believe in all of u
Wow. Thats something that deserves a huge deep dive but its so much content overload rn and only a few of us who was a certain age in tht era gon remember or care. Lasers got swallowed by/in that era lol
!https://youtu.be/L-6eKAVV0MIGood looks this info makes a lot of sense and adds even more context to what Joe was saying. I thought he meant a formula then in realtime in 2017 but wow
Yup exactly. Lupe was given Nothing On You as well and he said Atlantic hated his version. It leaked next to his version of Airplanes you linked if i'm not mistaken. That era is insane looking back. Lasers has a bunch of white no name pop hook singers littered throughout the album that weren't even credited publicly lol. They basically gave him a template album for Lasers after breaking him down to submission.
This is my favorite pre-made song of that Atlantic/Caren template era. Bruno was a major piece of the puzzle with Nothing on You but this was another "would-be hit" if it ever officially got released anywhere.
I thought this would've been great for Diggy coming out of his first album on Atlantic. He did great with the verses imo
Wow
That era cranked out enormous hits. A lot of them. And people still think AI isn't about to take everything in the music industry over... It just won't be as public facing as people think.
Back when he had APG, Soundclick producers were tryna get put on like crazy.
Man that APG era was something... Was a minor league for Atlantic essentially. Young Thug literally got inked there first. Kehlani too.

If they gave the album that they were forcing to be Lasers to Diggy he lowkey would have been able to have a serious rap career lol
I remember Ye posting this on his blog
This an example of how far the standard has fallen lol but a “hit formula” is kinda part of the reason why

In tryna find that hit formula everyday struggle clip i saw that Mike Caren already has an AI company lmaoo

They don’t still have something like this? Seems like now is more apt than ever for a minor league transitional label type thing for all the majors
I feel like what he talking about is self-evident with how music is/has been trending. playboi carti with his opium/vamp aesthetic has been a good example of showing how building a world/hype is more important than the actual music. Underground artists are trying to create there own world like cheromani with the ARG he's seems to be making with his sayso/bunny costume and horror aesthetic.
the need for "believability" is no longer necessary because rappers are becoming larger then life characters that are fueled by there worldbuilding and lack of public appearances/leaning into the character. I think nuance will be applied even less toward skill and more toward giving pieces of reality/vulnerability in the music.
Of course this is what the newest trend is becoming as there are always outliers.
I think the last phase is an over-saturation of characters with no substance. When every musician is a ghoul, ghost or alien, the other worldly aesthetic becomes valueless and traditional rappers are gonna make a comeback.
ultimately I don't think any of this is going to happen, and I think there's gonna be an artist that bridges the gap between skill/substance while also being sonically and aesthetically appealing to the new generation, somebody who doesn't try and force a "cultural reset" or push away the old generation but embraces both generations and sets a standard for the industry.

Travis Scott lowkey is fascinating because he kind of accidentally did this early 2010’s before Carti could just manipulate it with social media but he really had that lifestyle
Also while believability is no longer necessary, all of the guys who worldbuild like this seem to still take on the “street nigga rockstar” archtype in their subject matter even if its just surface level generic s*** about f***ing b****es/my niggas do this violent thing/expensive d**** etc lol. Another reason why niggas just blend together lol
