i was just watching this mike posner interview, kinda depressing honestly. i knew he wrote the massive maroon 5 song sugar but didn’t realize they took it from him. label didn’t wanna pay dr. luke’s team for it to be his single thought it’d tank if he sang it. also he mentions that boyfriend by justin bieber was for the same album, rough. great he still has such a positive outlook though.

Damn man. Mike Posner’s mixtapes were always on rotation and he had some pretty solid hits on his debut. Sucks he got f***ed over seems like a good dude
feel like he been riding the gimmick of that that i took a pill in ibiza track for the last 9 years
Please Don’t Go a classic but yeah some of these real talented writers and just ones and dones
Label made the right call on Sugar though. Whether or not that was fair is another convo

At least he was two hits on his name and wrote hits for others
This been known, he always talks about this s*** lol
i know he mentioned that he got shelved
pill in Ibiza was written in this context of feeling like a failure cause of the label pressure
but i have never heard him explain it in these terms so clearly, maybe he has though in more recent years and i just missed it
is this interviewer like the music version of lex fridman
on tiktok yes
he asks good questions sometimes about how the industry really works, ones most people seem too afraid to ask but he also kinda fan girls a little too hard
Damn.
Both of the songs happen to be horrendous, though.

think his versions would have been way better
his bridge way better

id consider please don't go a hit also, even if it was smaller than cooler than me.. has like 150m streams, 3x platinum sales
writing 5 hits is far from a gimmick

yeah it's hard to know if they made the right call, they could have used it to launch him bigger but would his career have gotten 6-7b streams or whatever the hell it's at i kind of doubt it but who knows he's a good song writer
seems the most unfair they couldn't reach some kind of agreement and just kept the rest of the album, like you give us sugar and boyfriend we pay the producers for the rest of the album and let you put it out
but the label system is a business with risk models at the end of the day not something to create good music

It was shocking to me when I first heard it. Those were bangers
This dude performed at my high school in like 2018 and people were being so disrespectful towards him during it lol. Felt so bad for the guy

what they do
what they do
Mfs talking the entire time and yelling out random s***. He was performing an acoustic set too so it was much easier to throw off the performance. We won a contest for him to perform so was just wack af to see how some people were acting when the guy was literally performing for free.

fr wonder what the world would be like if he got the songs and could have put out pages
this is a pretty good interview, bro exposed how much it cost to pay a promoter to break your song on the radio lol
imagine what its like now with streaming
