Yeah i think those two albums are easy ways to get into them
Theyre my fav because i can listen to them whenever for the most part where others i gotta be in certain moods
But Filth would probably be my fav "hardcore" album of theirs

i chose To Be Kind over The Seer here because not only is it my particular favorite, Screen Shot alone kind of primes you for the rest of their discography, i think that song is the perfect summation for their entire sound just in general

The Seer is how i orginally got into them when it first debut so its a special spot for me.
But i also love the more atmospheric n kinda cinematic like sound of The Seer too. While LM is more chill.
But yeah theyre discog is crazy then have a few pockets here in there where they have sounds that diff from their usual Noise n Industrial.

the title track in particular for The Seer probably has my favorite instrumental passage out of the other three, but i think that plodding riff for roughly the latter half of the song is a bit overwrought and an unsatisfactory ending at that too
then they got s*** like this where it's just absolutely insane how it's even on the same album lmao, amazing band honestly, hope i get to meet the frontman on tour

I love that s*** it like puts u into a hypnotic trance then they flip it
Like the song Lunacy from Seer is one of my favs from them too. How intense hypnotic it is then at the end its like a release n dust settling with layered choir singing. N the intial build up of the light guitar then melting into the siren sounds n synth. S*** is like chaos descending into a city, & then the quiet aftermath
I love how seer really is an "album album", lot of the outros wouldnt make sense if youre not familar unless youre listening to the order song right after. They play into each great, otherwise its like a smashcut or an unsatisfied feeling.
Really is like a movie or play

what did you think of the glowing man?
that seems to be the b****** child of the trilogy for most people, they feel like it's too self reveling and just "long" in general, but i think it actually makes sense from the seer onward because it has a really big introspective and spiritual turn to it that you could get hints of from the previous albums

thats good cuz Screen Shot was one of the first ones that really clicked with me (partially because its shorter and opening track). gonna check out Glowing Man soon then idk where ill go next

am i missing out a lot by barely paying attention to the lyrics? on seer and to be kind

not necessarily, i guess you could say the lyrics often take a backseat to the insane production work of the band, but i think they lend a quality that's very unique of them just in general, Gira's lyrics are often very Tao-y, philosophical/spiritual and nonsensical like a ritualistic shaman
i'd argue Gira was engaging in glossolalia on the latter half of She Loves Us
if you're into that stuff (like i kind of am lmao) then yeah its cool, otherwise you don't have to

I like it, but im a big fan of their more atmospheric & like outdoors insane preacher s*** n acoustic instuments + bending synth lmao more than their pure noise stuff.
But i do agree the tracks being so long really does hurt it, in a way. Like a Godspeed Black Emperor album, love that band as well, but theres only so few instances i can have to actually listen to their stuff. Same with that album.
I dont think splitting it up would do much tho, its still what it is. I feel q lot of the tracks on seer were meant to be pieced together but they splited it up a bit there as well.
Sound wise i love it since thats the side of Swans im really into. Only issue is the length, but i dont think thats a negative or a knock to the artist. Just sucks you gotta really have time for it.

Ok yeah the ones that stuck with me most were the ritualistic ones anyway
Need a studio version of The Knot
gira's holier than thou ass actually said that's never coming to an official release, same with the man who refused to be unhappy
that's definitely one of their best trilogy epics by far

You ever read Gira's fiction novel The Consumer.. Very.. idk.. weird but at the same time
There's a PDF of it on a reddit

it's saying the pdf isn't found, then it get pulled down?
reading the comments im already intrigued but definitely disgusted
i actually impulse bought one of his books that he recently released called The Knot where it's supposed to feature some of his writing + journal entries for different albums he was recording at the time, looking forward to getting it
@hanshan To Be Kind is actually hitting pretty nicely so far my initial thought that itd be easier to get into their pre-reunion stuff first might have been totally wrong
Didn't realize you'd never dove into them before
bump, they're releasing a new album next year, hyper excited lmao
Their new s*** ok, but they need to stop making post rock stuff and go back to their gothic/neofolk roots.
Didn't realize you'd never dove into them before
only some albums like Filth and Children of God that i could never get into much
