A N T I C H A O S· editedIt’s not about Chavez. You’re romanticizing this scenario where Venezuela manages to fix all its problems because the oil goes one way instead of another. It’s just perpetuating a cycle where others benefit from a country where millions of lives rely on a volatile market. Venezuela needs an actual foundation to build upon and that won’t come from a bunch of fairies whisking away a dictator in the middle of the night.
Venezuela found massive oil deposits before the country had developed stable, functioning institutions. When an influx of resources of that caliber appears in a developing country, the institutions bend to the resource rather than the resource creating stability. An example of the opposite would be Norway, which found its oil wealth after it had achieved institutional stability and governance.
Jan 3I’m not well versed on Venezuelan history but I know enough about the US to know they never have good intentions and have a long track record of causing chaos and destabilization everywhere they breathe
Same with what’s going on in Iran. They staged a coup way back when and overthrew a democratically elected PM cuz he didn’t wanna give them oil, Iran revolution happens in response and now Trump acting like he cares about their people when sanctions are hurting them and he just wants another puppet regime that’ll cozy up to him and Israel
