China is across the world and dedicated most of its military might domestically and around its borders. As much as it might want to do XYZ, it’s not in Beijing’s interest to. It’s not like they can power project to American waters, nor aim to.
They’re an even more restrained version of early 20th century US which would basically just watch Europe destroy itself and only intervene when it saw the easiest likelihood of victory.
