Can't even imagine reading and listening to music. You just end up not listening to the music and half reading the book in your hands

lmfao maybe if you have a low ass IQ and cant multi task dont speak for other people who obviously have no problem doing both at the same time

  • Oct 11, 2021

Unless it’s some ambience on the lowest of lowkeys like Stars of the Lid you can miss me w that s***

Surprising amount of hate for music + reading combo

I love being able to soundtrack books. Can heighten the mood/tone of what you’re reading a lot of the time

  • Oct 11, 2021

Dead Texan is good, also Stars of the Lid like someone above said. also classic post-rock like Explosions in the Sky is always fun

But books are best enjoyed in SILENCE so you can hear the voice of the AUTHOR

  • Oct 11, 2021

I need instrumental music tbh, or else I start mixing up the words of the song with the words in the book lol

    New NIGHTMAN

    I usually prefer no music

But if I do listen while I read it’s gotta be no vocals

    Usually film scores

Yeah usually only listen to music if there's a noisy environment like during longer train rides sometimes, the best music for reading is still no music

Sometimes it's great yeah, but it's a gamble, more often than not ends up distracting me too much tbh.

Reading Inherent Vice with Pynchon's playlist was p cool. Or other 60s beat lit with 60s jazz

Also I read Do Androids Dream while listening to Sakamoto / Alva Noto glitch / classical and Banteay Srey by Carl Stone, that made for nice sci-fi vibes as well

i cant read and listen to music at the same time unless it’s just like a chill instrumental/ambient s***

    That's why I'm looking

For me the music for reading has to be JUST RIGHT because if it's just a bit too loud or a bit too lyrical it blocks me from finding the focus to read the book

But there are albums that I just play on the lowest volume and I enter a different state

Jazz is the easiest choice for it. The two guys someone mentioned above are perfect.

    Ambient also works great

But there's an art in finding perfect reading music
You can't read a book while Gucci Mane is blasting in the background

You just gotta listen to the right music

It's a very specific place and you can't just play anything

    Yeah damn
Idk if KTT thinks we're talking about reading to Young Thug in the background or what but listening to music while you chill out and read a book makes the experience a lot better

Playing that Floating Points x Pharoah Sanders album while it's raining outside and you're reading a good book is just mood for life

Also... does anyone know how to tweak the equalizer for the music to sound muted?

I want something in the lines of those "you're in the bathroom at a party" but instead of getting a reverb or whatever I just want the music to sound like it's playing behind closed doors

    Movie Score Soundtracks.

For me, I would listen to Rocky soundtracks while doing homework sometimes.

Idk man reading authors like Foucault, Bourdieu, Durkheim, Cioran... is already so painful sometimes in a silent environment idk how music distracting your thoughts even more is supposed to help (but hey if you're comfortable with it do you )
