No one buys music anymore - myself included - so to make money labels have turned to leasing music for $0.003-$0.005/stream. Artists don't make nearly enough, so why even put effort into your craft? Why not use AI and auto on a 2 min record?

If we valued music, we'd purchase it. If we purchased it, artists could make a livelihood by being artists. And we'd likely value music as art even more.

Streaming was inevitable. When sharing files became as easy it did it was only a matter of time until the labels were forced to co opt the Napster model with the compromise being that it’s easier than doing it yourself since all it took was implementing into the already established iTunes infrastructure. Same with tv and movies

It’s just the focus has shifted away from complete albums to compilations of random songs. It’s just a trend. it’ll switch back and then go back to this probably multiple times over our lives. I don’t think it’s anything to overthink or be worried about. Also I think it being easier for anyone to put their art out is a great thing, even if it’s a bit annoying to sift through it all.

How does music suck now? So much good music dropping year after year. I have songs from 2018 in my rotation rn. And if anything we’re getting a lot of weirder music these days which isn’t a bad thing. But things have mostly been the same for a while now.

I think people are over reacting to teenagers putting out a lot of emo trap or whatever. They’ll grow out of it in 5 years I’m not worried
