When Numbers Lie: How to Spot Fake Data in Music and Why It Matters
this is interesting
I feel like the vast majority of this is unsigned artists - labels donât really have much of an incentive to do this for the most part since artists donât get the revenue in these situations and thereâs less benefit for labels to do this - I doubt charts from fake playlists really help THAT much in building an audience especially when labels have the resources and connections to get their artists on real playlists
Meanwhile unsigned artists have a clear incentive to boosting numbers - they wanna get signed
these streaming campaigns are too much. do any of you guys use last fm? the numbers BTS get on there are unreal in every sense of the word.
insanely inorganic
like you don't understand how bad it is.
dynamite is currently the most scrobbled song on the site. the record holder for the past several years was mr brightside by the killers until that was broken by boy with luv. you know how many scrobbles mr brightside had at the time? about 15 million. dynamite currently has 73 million scrobbles. f***ing BUTTER has 53 million
mr brightside's scrobbles increased recently since people were trying to prevent boy with luv from becoming the then-most scrobbled song on the website, and even then it's still only at 24 million scrobbles with 2.3 million listeners. not to mention the song is over a decade old. boy with luv (37 million) has only 319 thousand listeners, and dynamite and butter aren't too far off. these numbers are simply impossible. and i know someone is gonna bring up "muh buying power." but buying doesn't have an impact on last.fm. if they're willing to do this over a relatively dead website like last fm i can't imagine what other stats we can't trust
so some BTS stans are upset that columbia is promoting industry baby, (columbia handles BTS's distribution in the US and lil nas is signed to their label) so they've been attacking columbia's CEO on twitter

This is actually deranged
Heâs saying Industry Baby is going to appear on the charts next week and these BTS stans are taking it as a direct attack against BTS
Why don't you just BUY your fave's music instead of writing essays about fanbases that do

This is true. People complain about the rappers doing big numbers, but then stream their fav. for free.
bts stans remind me of the worst elements of michael jackson fans but with literally none of the justification or talent to back up the insanity

i love seeing antis seethe
some of the finest comedy i've read
if they didn't have merit they wouldn't effortlessly pack stadiums, break records and become a muse of your envy
Thatâs really a valid argument for BTS popularity. They can fill a stadium on every continent. Itâs crazy what they can achieve as a touring act.

Theyâve never packed a stadium in the US or Europe. Unless youâre using stadium/arena interchangeably. But thereâs a huge difference between the two

They sold out the Rose Bowl which is absolutely a stadium
Idk about Europe tho

They sold out Wembley and Stade De France two nights in a row. They also played stadiums in SĂŁo Paolo and Osaka. That happened during the stadium extension of their last world tour, the 2020 tour was supposed to be an entire stadium tour. Theyâre already on a level with Swift, Ed and BeyoncĂ© when it comes to touring.
the minimum attendance for speak yourself tour was 30k but that's cause it was in f***ing Saudi arabia
otherwise, everywhere else it was 80,000 in attendance minimum
i dont understand whats so hard to just come clean and be like "dam they're big af and tbh i dont know s*** about them cause i dont follow them at all"
or
"imma be honest, im just xenophobic af "

Ah you and @Giesi are right. I only looked at the original dates for their last tour and missed the extension dates which were all stadiums. My bad

Man shut the f*** up. My favorite footballer is South Korean and my favorite reality show is Japanese. Disliking BTS doesnât mean someone is hostile to other cultures. Maybe they just donât like state-sponsored, manufactured, exploitative music groups and the weirdo stanbases that comes with it
fyi we complain when barbz mass buy nicki's singles too, this isn't an issue specific to BTS or their fans but a massive flaw within billboard's formula that needs to be fixed immediately

Your fav football player is South Korean? :â
