Yes there is do you want me to find you a study? I don't know if you'll have access to it without uni access or some s*** tho
edit been known for 200 years too https://www-annualreviews-org.ezproxy.gvsu.edu/doi/10.1146/annurev-psych-113011-143840
its basically your brain taking stimuli and putting it in the wrong places. You end up perceiving the wrong s*** in weird ways. Its really not that hard to believe especially when they can objectively test for it. Its not only based on self report. In this study they use a modified stroop task to determine the level of synesthsia by taking objective data on how the participants perform.
Yes the science makes sense and it didn’t need to be looked up if you know how the brain works. But the fact is that color and tone rely on context and preconceived notions to make you feel a certain way. I believe that people are using visuals associated with the music to foster ideas that certain chords and tones equate a certain color. With the brain’s function to form patterns and cultural bias things like sad = blue isn’t anything special to form a term if all it is normal brain functions. Surely everyone has synesthesia in some way, but people taking this phenomenon and dumbing it down to sound = color are missing the point of what is being studied.

Yeah it takes a while sometimes
Thread reminds me that I actually had this s*** on my first few psychedelic trips, I would sit in the dark with music playing and my bedroom would change colors depending on the music Flowerboy would make my bedroom turn yellow, Lonerism made it turn a shade of pink, Awaken my love sounded blue etc.
On like my fifth trip, I realized I was just seeing the light from my monitor. I had VLC open and the lighting in my room would change because of the screenshot of the album cover
