this is a expansion upon a earlier thread (ktt2.com/my-theory-on-communal-living-92821) In said thread I mentioned that each community should have a Committee for Defense.

With the incompetence of police as well as them being a threat to the livelihood of black and latino people.

I believe that in order to counter this said communities should form Defense forces.
members would be elected by members of said community and will only be allowed to act based on the will of the community.

These forces shouldn't solely be trained for defending the community but also how to properly deal with someone having a mental health struggle or helping neighbors settle disagreements or helping maintain the cleanliness of the community. (ask questions itt so i can expand on this)

each member of said forces will have to attend weekly meeting where they are encouraged to criticize themselves members of their team and receive criticism.

these meetings are not based on authority but are really just used to keep anyone person from getting to full of themselves ore latching on to power. Roles within this committee are rotated and shared by the members of the team.

I also would like each member to attempt to train people within the community to train people in defense which i would hope would lead to a end to the reliance on police.

unlike police these people are directly elected members of the community who are only allowed to act based on the wishes of the community. and unlike police the people can remove someone from their post if they disobey the wishes of the people or abuse their position.

It would be no different than police lol you'll have a "community" represent the majority of themselves and leave the others in the dark

the goal of this is a alternative to our current view of policing. i dont know if i left this out but power is rotated so that everyone can be represented. also read the thread in op it gives more context. i completely get why you would think that tho.

i think there could be a meaningful difference. it removes qualified immunity and lack of choice in terms of who policies you from the equation. depends on how its implemented obv

we need to drastically reform the police, we simply cant do away with all law enforcement

Im gonna be laughed at but ive never been proven wrong; we need police to only be there to defuse crimes, not enact punishment. We need more black police officers, we need more social workers, and we need deeper bias training

What OP suggests is liable to creating balkanisation, and even greater ethnic divides. Is what we have now good for race relations? No. but that could be much worse

Also the haitian revolution is a bad example. they succeeded and i admire their uprising. they were then taken over by a brutal dictator who ran them badly

If you are actually worried about police, uou should be advocating for the increase in educational requirements to be an officer.

I studied criminal justice in college and the biggest factor on how cops react in terms of force, corruption, etc is education.
