Movie went off the rails towards the end but first half of the movie was so good

the jokes/humor in resident evil is making me appreciate the humor in hope even more

so many forced jokes in re and none of them were lol funny

Hope is really the tone I wanted from Resident Evil. Which is crazy because if you take the writing of this movie and give it the budget of Resident Evil you kind of get what I wanted. Creatures in this and how it approaches scares and suspense I like better too.

What forced jokes were there? All of the comedy was situational and served as reactions to what the main character was experiencing. It was moreso poking fun at the absurdity of the situation rather than trying to get off cheap laughs

Poking fun at the absurdity of a situation is exactly what the MCU does and why sincerity in cinema has completely died ever since. Like that’s exactly the definition of forced laughs and tonally jarring because they take you out of the moment.

At some point it’s just now been used as a crutch to appear like you don’t actually believe in the world, messages, and wacky ideas you’re portraying

If you were going into a Resident Evil movie expecting sincerity, I think your problem starts there

You’re positing that art cannot poke fun at itself or have a sense of levity and also be sincere art. Not everything has to be overly serious, it’s Resident Evil. If you want zombie IP with a serious tone, go watch The Walking Dead or The Last of Us

The thing is that the RE games are funny in a campy way in a similar way to the PWSA movies where the action or dialogue is over the top, cheesy and goofy. The humor in those games isn’t based on insincere s*** like “omg that blockhead doesn’t stop chasing me!” Which is the kind of Reddit humor you find in the mcu

There is no humor in this movie that is insincere or forced. Every “joke” is the main character simply reacting to the absurd s*** happening in front of him

The RE games fused its absurd horror with the campiness and cheesiness in it at the same time. It didn’t have its characters react to it by effectively poking holes at what we were seeing.

Yes lol. You need to stop saying this like the movie executes the exact tone and humor of the games. Yes somewhat corny is expected . No one forced the darker storylines and messages into the movie that create the tonal whiplash.

Shaleirose when it comes to dissenting opinion of anything they hold in a high regard just becomes very insecure and defensive when truth be told I am glad they loved it. I am glad people love it doesnt change we have free will to have our thoughts about it. Nor are we saying it was all bad. the Humor in Hope and much of the movie even if vague about aliens and other elements is better written and acted for me than Resident Evil which is fine they both serve different fan bases and wants. The tension , suspense and other elements i simply like better and much more likely to rewatch than a resident evil

resident evil will make more money, get better reviews and win more awards so what are you really arguing if you are upset that proper or imlikethat or I liked elements of this better. We not saying resident evil is trash or "i expected no humor and a direct adaptation of the game". S*** proper was mixed on Hope when it dropped but is saying after resident evil they want to show it more appreciation

I thought it was really good. I just think people are saying stuff about the amount of comedy in the movie that just isn’t true, idc if they liked the film or not

No there’s not

If you don’t like the comedy, that’s your opinion and you’re well within your right to have it

But saying there’s forced comedy in the movie is straight up factually incorrect

The movie is literally a tonal replicate of most of the games
