I wonder if Kishimoto's input will go all the way to casting (similar to Oda with the live action of One Piece). It would be a good way to deflect potential criticism of the actors (assuming they don't cast a blue-eyed Asian kid as the lead).

I deadass shudder at the thought of casting man…

A no name white boy (which it will have to be) taking this on…

You’ll only be able to land star power in… Kakashi? Who they cant really do the Spider-Man on and keep his mask on til the final fight, (this early in the story). Who’s gonna want that role?

    Kids just suck.

    also... this is gonna suck...

but what they NEED to do is NOT make an origin story. don't waste time explaining s***. they dont need to "expand the audience" or "teach new people about Naruto." this is one of the biggest IPs ever and we don't need no f***ing origin story. go directly into the chuunin exam. we know everyone, we know the world. just do it.

I thoroughly enjoyed it and I haven’t watched one piece consistently since I was a kid.

Casting was a1 for the most part and you can tell Oda wasn’t playing about being hands on with the process

People talk about the challenge of creating good visual effects, but yeah, the real challenge in this type of adaptation is casting child actors. Not to be harsh, but most of them simply aren't very good at acting. Which makes sense because it's something that, in most cases, only comes with experience.

A key difference between the live action One Piece and the new ATLA is that the team behind One Piece built real sets with which the actors could interact, whereas in ATLA it's practically all greenscreen. That kind of effort makes a huge difference and is key to creating an immersive world.

    Haven’t seen ATLA LA

And I know OP was practical/set based that’s why it’s above the rest visually but I thought the actual characters and acting for the most part was really good

    Alita battle angel exists

That was actually good. I think anime adaptations can work for s*** like alita and akira. S***, GitS could have been executed in a great way. A paprika or perfect blue film could be cool. Any story that’s on the shorter side can work. Something like Naruto is just too big too adapt properly

With that said, live action will remain inferior to its animated counterpart because animation is just so expressive

I don't understand why they adapt the most insane anime to do live action like it's never something like a sports anime, or something a bit grounded like steins gate or violet evergarden. It's an anime with giant f***ing toads, or one where a cook spins around to turn his foot on fire

Japan actually has the right idea of using drama and romance anime/manga to make live action movies/shows out of.

Yes, I agree, I thought it was pretty decent overall. I mentioned practical sets because I think you can get better performances out of actors by using them.

Like it or not this is gonna be an adaptation kid…

Zabuza isn’t enough to fill a 1:40 movie. And by “enough”, I mean content wise, worthy enough to invest 100m+ as the first movie of a franchise. They’re not gonna make 15 movies to cover the whole series so they’ll need to pick and choose what they wanna adapt. Zabuza’s story is a bit dull in comparison to what most people (and certainly what HOLLYWOOD) think Naruto is/can be.

If we count the team 7 introduction the land of waves is 20 eps that's more then enough for a movie. It's not dull the pace is just slow The whole point of these movies is to let ppl who wouldn't watch anime get into the franchise. Skipping one of the most important parts of the story and one they would have the easiest times adapting makes no sense.

  • Feb 24, 2024

200+ episodic anime, 500+ manga chapters being adapted into presumably a 90 minute movie… yea this gonna be good.

Unless they’re adapting it by arcs which I can see being the only conceivable way as a movie franchise. A lot will have to be left on the cutting board
