fam when they moved the whole bar to Oregon just for the f*** of it even though it didnt fit in that warehouse right lmao
Nathan bankrupted HBO Max with that move
feel like this show is gonna get a lot of backlash for being cruel. Nathan For You already had a bit of that but this last episode took it to the next level
making a guy, who was really close to his grandfather before he recently passed, befriend an old man, have a much needed bonding experience, change the man's diapers, and then mourn his death before getting into another dispute over a will is a pretty emotional toll to put on a person already going through it lol
wonder if dude was so shaken emotionally he had to dip or got to googling and realized this weird awkward guy Nathan played him into wiping a stranger's ass
hope that scene wasn't real btw
either way this has gone too far. I'm all for the hijinks and the main concept is still funny, but my entertainment shouldn't have to come at the cost of another person's emotional wellbeing

Imagine being this sympathetic to someone who's anti-Semitic.

Bruh lmao
Soon
Bro is destroying the idea of meta humor
in my opinion he is honest-to-god a genius
the feeling of just slack-jawed awe i had watching the first three episodes is one that i've only had one time before, and it was when season one of nathan for you was dropping. s*** has me saying out loud "i can't believe this is happening" multiple times an episode.
it's basically impossible to do something that is actually surprising these days. he's one of the only people I've ever seen do it

this idea of meta has been done in art house films like close up (1990), synecdoche new york (2008) and playtime (1967) but I've never seen it done so well so recently
I always imagined him as being a d*** in person thats really cool
"...the gaze of superiority and dominance that he casts upon Kor struck me as arrogant, cruel, and, above all, indifferent..."
yet at the same time
"Angela presents herself as a devout Christian; she displays an obsession with the dangers of satanic cults and gives voice to some remarkable conspiracy theories regarding the power of the Devil in daily life, yet his gimlet-eyed dubiousness about these ideas remains retentive and incurious, without any probing of causes and sources and without the scathing political satire of “Borat Subsequent Moviefilm.”
this dude is complaining that when she said dumb s*** that he didn't "probe causes and sources" and give the liberal cousin at thanksgiving lecture
this kind of "culture" writer jealously hoards the ability to control narratives; someone like Fielder whose art actually invites the viewer to witness the lived reality of omnipresent narrative control exposes his own intellectual bankruptcy as someone who allegedly "speaks truth to power" but is in reality a high-status vassal of the ruling class

those films all slap but nathan's choice to come at nathan for you as a comedian making a show where the audience comes back to the comedian's exaggerated persona is central to the success of that show and this new show (which is even better, which I frankly didn't think was possible)
synecdoche for instance is one of my favorite films of all time, a true masterpiece, but it comes at it from the exact opposite direction; it's squarely a Film with wall-to-wall melancholy and art house aesthetic and Philip Seymour Hoffman (RIP) being emo, and it's very slow
this show is just... because it hits you in episodic bursts of total absurdity, it just feels like he never slows down, never lets up, even in the quiet moments. it's intoxicating
Just finished
Nathan is f***ing insane
The next episode preview looks like Angela finally has enough of Nathan

Borat 2 sucked. Anyone using that as an example of quality is an idiot.
I’m not a snitch
When Nathan gets home to his 15 year old kid after not seeing him for 9 years and says “Hey…what’s up” and the kid just acts like it’s natural
wait, what is this show?
nathan fielder
This f***in show
