such a crazy decision how did they land on scrapping entirely instead of shrinking scope and taking that gameplay they said was fun and releasing a standard mp mode for this remaster theyre releasing

or finishing up the base game and letting another studio take over post launch

We have more than one ambitious, brand new single player game that we're working on here at Naughty Dog, and we cannot wait to share more about what comes next when we’re ready.

This is all I needed to hear to be hype again, give me more of those single player experiences. That’s why ND is my favorite game studio

And @BlueDream_ I’ve tried replaying TLOU2 multiple times and never even make it passed that first open world section in Seattle cuz s*** is a snooze fest for multiple hours

Looking forward to the rogue like mode cuz I can hop straight into the action but also still upset I can’t get a multiplayer experience with the fire gameplay

That game is far from a walking simulator, especially on Grounded mode

I’ve beaten it im just saying I’ve never been able to replay it fully because the first several hours are insanely slow with mood-setting and walking

Pretty absurd from a resource perspective to get this deep into a project only to pull the plug for something that should have been abundantly clear from initial planning.

I don't know why people say this, they were going to be doing singleplayer still regardless...

They just completely fumbled and mishandled multiplayer that we should have gotten. Hell it should be an add on to the remaster they're releasing next month instead of completely scrapped and cancelled.

In the letter they said they had two choices. Either use all of their resources for the foreseeable future to continue to develop and support the online title, or use that time to make single player games

And personally I’d rather them use all of their resources to put out more single player games sooner rather than later

That's not true though, that's just a PR spin that people are buying. We really believe that Sony and Naughty Dog had them working on this without thinking about the risks, costs, and upkeep of the project? That all goes into planning

They also during the devleopment of Factions said they had three games in development. Factions, TLOU3, and a new IP. They're a massive gaming studio they have plenty of manpower.

On top of that TLOU2 started development in 2014. Naughty Dog said the multiplayer had been in pre production since working on TLOU2. Guess what they released two Uncharted games, TLOU2, and remasters all in that 9 year time frame. The project didn't fail because a lack of manpower and resources, it failed because of Jim Ryan and trying to be GaaS.

Whatever the reason is, I’m personally glad that their main focus and priority now is on the next single player game

Now they have all hands on deck to work on whatever dope story focused game that they have planned

But I’m just not a multiplayer type of gamer . I like to sit back and enjoy single player experiences

And I’m impatiently waiting for them to start production on TLOU3

They can do both though? Doing one doesn't damage the other, they used to do it all the time during the PS3. Uncharted had multiplayer, TLOU had multiplayer, etc they were fun.

Playstation has gotten greedy, credit to Jim Ryan trying to push for the cash cow of a GaaS is the issue. It should really just be a regular mutliplayer mode, that all we needed here.

Like they raised prices on Playstation Plus which is needed for online multiplayer, but they haven't put out a multiplayer game in how many years at this point lol. Then they pick the worst version possible just because it has a small chance at making tons of money

i think prob naughty dog didnt want a dedicated team set up to support this thing. As of now i think they are a 3 team studio and didnt want that third team to be indefinitely their live service team and would rather have them do work on their other games

and i dont think naughty dog trusts another studio to support tlou

Feel like they’ll definitely just reuse some of the assets for whatever comes out in the future

I mean what Naughty Dog wants would've been irrelevant if boss man said to do such. We saw reports that plenty groaned at the GaaS project from ole Jimmy, and now we see it appears to be getting rolled back by a lot.

That being said though they can and should put together the multiplayer they did create and make it an add on to TLOU2. I don't think they'll do that at all, but why waste the time and resources? Go and give the fans what they want, especially if this has delayed the timeline on the other games they're working on in anyway.

Go tell your boss you couldn't get something finished because of your ambition. Tell your girl you couldn't pick up those groceries cuz you were too ambitious today.
