@MetaphoricalOne now we can do a deep synergy breakdown. im going to include as many relevant numbers as possible.

    Transition:

Tatum - 14% freq (from here on all % equals frequency), 1.23 PPP, 73rd percentile
    Booker - 19%, 1.19, 67th percentile

    Overall half court:

    Tatum - 86%, .968 ppp, 58th percentile
    Booker - 81%, .998, 69th percentile.

Also, this may not be as relevant in the big picture, but looking at overall short shot clock situations (clock at less than 4 seconds) Tatum ranks in the 76th percentile on higher volume, while Booker is down in the 29th percentile.

    Pick and roll offense

    Tatum - 527 possessions, 1.04 ppp, 82nd percentile
    Booker - 966 possessions, 1.01 ppp, 73rd percentile

Pick and roll offense, shots only

    Tatum - 388 possessions, 1.021, 89th percentile
    Booker - 475 possessions, .926, 70th percentile,

    Pick and roll, passes

    Tatum - 139 possessions, 1.101, 59th percentile
Booker - 491 possessions, 1.092, 56th percentile (this is why I say tatum has playmaker potential, he just needs more volume)

    Isolation offense

Tatum - 273 possessions (has a higher frequency for this play type than booker, should be noted), 1.018 PPP, 76th percentile
    Booker - 286 possessions, 1.017 ppp, 75th percentile

    Isolation, shots only

    Tatum - 240 possessions, .996 ppp, 75th percentile
    Booker - 197 possessions, .954 ppp, 69th percentile

    Isolation, passes

    Tatum - 33, 1.182 ppp, 72nd percentile (again, he's capable)
    Booker - 89, 1.157, 67th percentile

Catch and shoot, in the half court

    Tatum - 134 possessions, 1.142 ppp, 67th percentile
    Booker - 205 possessions, 1.19 ppp, 29th percentile

    Guarded catch and shoot shots

    Tatum - 51 possessions, 1.275 ppp, 95th percentile
    Booker - .772, 79th percentile.

take from these numbers what you will, but i think it paints a much clearer picture on their offensive abilities. to be continued, again.

@MetaphoricalOne We also have to gauge pure player impact. So we all know top to bottom the celtics are a much superior team to phoenix. But even on a team in top 5 in offensive and defensive efficiency, tatum sticks out. Of all our players who play major, regular minutes, he has the second highest offensive rating, highest defensive rating, and the highest overall net rating. The biggest indicator of his impact tho is the fact that when you look at on/off data, he is the only player where we go negative when he sits.

For example, when Kemba is playing, we have a +7.1 net rating, so we outscore opponents by 7.1 points per 100 when he's on the court. when Kemba isn't playing, our net rating is +7.1. So overall we are performing the exact same way whether or not kemba plays. However, when tatum is playing, our net rating is a +10.6, and when he's on the bench, that drops all the way to a -0.6. He's the only player on the team where we crater when he sits. Even though the sample size isn't super large, he's the only starter we have who regularly plays with 4 bench guys around him. the most used tatum + bench lineup has a +18.8 net rating. So there is some proof he can lead those units as well, not just benefit from playing with starters.

for some more context on the net rating stuff, thats better numbers than the mavs have with our without doncic (they stay positive when he sits) we are worse without tatum than the bucks are without giannis, and we have a higher net rating with tatum on the court than the rockets do with harden on the court.

tatum is 6th in the league, among guys playing at least 25 minutes per game in overall net rating. 1-4 are all members of the bucks starting lineup, and id say those numbers are obvs inflated by giannis. outside of milwaukee players, only kawhi is in front of him.
