Letterboxd is a really helpful app for keeping track of movies and finding more to watch. It is barely legible as social media. I've been using it since ~2013 and rarely engaged with that aspect of it.

the 'community' on letterboxd is full of completely braindead morons leaving the same unfunny comment under every single movie about how every character is gay for each other or doing the same 'its fun so i like it' surface level observations

and dont go to any movie mentioning communism over there as it is overridden by the worst possible sort of people you might encounter, literal neonazis with lowercase names and girl avis

i pray they put an option to post public reviews behind paywall at some point

functionally the app is a complete mess as well and of course their SEO is garbage where you have to google everything plus 'letterboxd' if you want to see the link appear for any movie less popular than godfather

I love software that works and doesn’t change at all (like ktt2) and Letterboxd was that
Shame that founders couldn’t just enjoy what they got but I guess nobody’s above wanting to get paid

it aint about getting paid its about the historical practice of either getting bought out to maintain your business (98% of companies) or becoming so big you start buying out others (2%)
