LMAO BRUH NAH anyone defending this is stupid
None of this needed to be put in a movie, write a book or make a educational writing piece about it big YIKES
Here is my review...no spoilers.
‘Cuties’ at its core is a character study of an individual who is living in a society where those who seemingly get the most attention, have the most fun, and are accepted partake in actions that goes against the cultural values in which you are raised.
The movie follows Amy, a young lonely muslim girl who befriends a group of young girls who happen to be trying out for a dance competition. Amy is subjected to ridicule and peer pressure from them which leads her to start acting more like those same peers. She starts to dress like them, she begins to engage in social media, and is introduced to a whole new explicit world as a previously sheltered teen. Her naivety of social norms and need of acceptance soon lead her down a path that even her new peers disapprove. By the end of the movie Amy faces the final question…”Was it all worth it?”
A lot of the outrage of this movie has been focused on the portrayal of the young girls in the movie and how it panders to pedophiles. Not once in this movie did I think that the movie promotes pedophilia or sexualizes young girls for viewer pleasure. It’s quite the opposite. During the final dance sequence, we can visually witness how a lot people are disgusted with how sexual the girls’ performance is. The movie doesn’t even promote provocative dancing. The provocative dancing is just a reflection of what these young girls see in media and what they think will get them attention and accolades.
I will say this…it is uncomfortable watching little girls dance provocatively and have camera shots on their asses but there is no intention of glorifying this behavior for viewer pleasure. There is a scene where the girls are learning how to twerk. It’s played off as comedic and also meant to characterize Amy bonding with her peers by teaching them how to do it. Honestly, the controversy behind this had me unnecessarily a***yzing how long the camera lingers or positions itself on certain shots…which was unfortunate. Whether or not certain shots in the movies are necessary or not can be up for debate, but they do serve a purpose.
Overall, this movie was a decent indie flick. Nothing more, nothing less. It’s flaws lie in its lack of creative direction. And at a runtime of only 90 minutes, the movie could have spent more time developing the main character and her arch of rebellion more.

I respect your views but I can’t agree with the whole “they didn’t do this for viewers pleasure”......that may have not been the goal but someone who’s pedo doesn’t give a f*** about all that you said. They see little girls twerking and that’s enough for them. That’s the main reason why I’m iffy about this type of movie existing.
I get the message they tryna showcase, and if this somehow was a world where pedo’s didn’t exist then so be it. But the fact that they do to me means as a society we have to be more protective of what we actually showcase.
And I see it from the perspective of: if I had a daughter would I want her playing in a movie like this?? F*** no.

Yeah bro originally I didn’t think they showed all that. S*** makes me sick to my stomach.
I was thinking more so the whole twerking thing was them watching too much rap videos and tryna imitate them and this was suppose to serve as a wake up piece
11 year olds
Twerking
How this got any further past these two things is mind blowing and speaks to how open with the impending agenda they’re finna become.
